Hawaii

Well, what the heck happened to Hawaii during the great war?

 I mean it's really got me curious.

I have just gone an assumed islands, island nations, and coastal cities (like Vancouver) are under water ;)

"Continents were swallowed in flames and fell beneath the boiling oceans." It may be an over exaggeration but it could have happened to small islands like Hawaii.

Hawaii was probably a strategic military target and got the [pineapples] bombed out of it. It could make for an interesting game location with some islands relatively untouched and still inhabited while others are highly radioactive jungles - sounds great to me! I think it's unlikely that they'd decide to submerge it but that's certainly a possibility.

You could literally have the entire islands the game space instead of what we have in FO3 and FONV where the game is limited to a square. That would be cool, it would give you much more of an emersion factor.

How would that work? Pay the ferryman to move from Island to Island?

If the Islands did not sink chances are they were nuked off the map. Naval Bases such as pearl harbour and its also America's main operations center in the pacific ocean. If 77 nukes were for southern Nevada I can imagine several hundred for a target like Hawaii. Being volcanic that many nukes should do something earth shattering and make it sink.

Oahu would be obliterated, or at least close to it. It has the military bases and the major population centers so it would probably get the bulk of the nukes - and honestly it isn't a very large island. Technically the volcanoes are extinct but that wouldn't necessarily stop Science! from providing a fiery aftermath. The Big Island and Maui would be the next most important targets and they are also volcanically active so they'd no doubt have massive eruptions - anyone not killed in the nuclear blast or the initial eruptions would likely get driven in to the ocean by the lava flows. The other islands may escape special treatment - but even if they weren't nuked directly they'd still be badly affected by their neighbors.

An aside about Nevada, while modern Las Vegas may not seem like a prime target in the Fallout universe Mr. House's presence probably raised it's profile considerably. Even with this consideration Hawaii would undoubtedly be a higher priority, it would no doubt still be a military hub for America's interests in the Pacific, I just don't think we should downplay Las Vegas' importance.

I agree that Hawaii is probably no more, nukes or not. Besides, I love the desert setting, and I'm still not sick of it after Fallout 1, 2, and New Vegas. I am fine with a different atmosphere than desert, but I feel that tropics would be too drastic of a change.

Jetski?

(A good way to get vehicles in, without risking them becoming overpowered...)

There's also Vegas' neighbour in Nellis.

If they survived, I'd imagine 200 years of off and on eruptions would make the islands a bit bigger.

I agree, plus it would be cool to have a map that's on an island (I'd like some fish mutants).

Maybe there could be a major ghoul town on one of the more densily populated islands where you have to pay the ferryman to get to or something (maybe the water near it is like +400 rads. a second?)

A radioactive volcanic ash archipelago because the PRC would've ultra-nuked Pearl Harbor and Clark AFB, along with the dormant volcanoes being reawakened by the seismic shock of the nuclear impacts.

I was just thinking, since the Chinese didn't target Pittsburgh maybe they just left Hawaii alone, thinking that due to lack of communication with the main land would cut off their supplies and wipe them all out... That might've happened.
