Post Game Regrets

Post » Sat Jan 02, 2010 10:09 am

I have just completed the Main Quest for SI, thus completing the Main Quest for Oblivion, KotN, and SI. Aside from side quests and RP, what should be next? I did FG, MG. I haven't done any of the side quests in SI.

What should I do next?

What would you do differently if you could?

I for one would make sure that I get Shadowrend as my Doppelganger used a bound dagger and didn't drop the sword.

I would also try and get more sigil stones before finishing MQ in Oblivion.

Discuss, please.

I'm quite pleased at my history with the game actually. I started with lots of studied and carefully built (ok, uber) characters that did everything pretty well and accomplished all the quests in the game. That gave me a great background in how all the skills worked and how each quest and questline turned out. Efficient leveling, spell stacking, all of it.

Then I got into RP. By knowing the game well, I found I didn't mind if my character had flaws, weaknesses and refused to do many of the quests. Anyway going the uber/do everything/memorize UESPwiki route first worked very well for me; at this point, RP'ing is simply a blast that never gets old. :)

If you are at the point of 'what to do next', consider a new character and some serious RP maybe?

My current character is a no melee archer. Since there is no real archer's guild, she is a loyal member of the guild of mages and that has worked out real well for her. Magic helps compensate for her many weaknesses. She's no hero, so the MQ and KOTN are out. She happily kills, but only for her own purposes so the DB is out. She won't touch a melee weapon so the FG is out she figures. As easy as it is for a mage to make money (enchanting and potions) she sees no reason to steal stuff so she doesn't have much interest in the TG. She sure loves exploring and traveling though. She also is fairly quick to help her friends. Oh she did Sheo's Shrine quest and is quite ashamed of herself for it - she will never lift a finger to help him again - she finds SI interesting, but frankly would love to see someone kick Sheo's butt. Lol.

Now there's a new RP idea - do SI on Jyggalag's side!

Replacing Syl or Thadon would be entirely consistent with that end, and justify the events of getting there. Let the other defect and join Jyggalag too, and you're there! Sheogorath is now without allies and Jyggalag can move in as soon as you leave. Probably too devious a strategy for Buffy, and Jyggy's no more likeable than Sheogorath, anyway.

I wonder if there's any way to sabotage Xedilian? You kill the Gatekeeper, and can leave without replacing him, but Xedillian is an obstacle to Jyggalag that really needs undoing.

Heh, some clever ideas there. :goodjob: You are right though that Buffy's problem would be that Jiggy is as bad as Sheo. She actually does have a dark side, and has been called 'cuddly like a rattlesnake'. For example, she assassinated that rogue mage witch Earana. That of course prompted a visit from the DB. She went to check out this Rufio fellow. Ultimately, she decided her bow was not for hire and let Rufio live. She screwed with his head badly enough though that I expect he would have preferred death. The longer version of this is in http://chorrol.com/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=4516&view=findpost&p=119082 of her journal.

I have no regrets, I′m happy with what my dunmer has accomplished. I would have regreted it if I had began the MQ but luckily all the side quests got in my way.
Hrm.. his way I mean :)

With some of my initial play throughs, I wish I could have saved Baurus and Jauffre in the Battle for Bruma, saved more lives during Kvatch. I also once made the mistake of being the one that killed the "goblins" in a village in one of the final Fighters Guild quests.

The only regret I get is the speed at which I went through some of the guilds. That's why I slowed down, I took a short break from the game and decided to go a bit more slowly and enjoy the world, including a bit of RP.

Uma, my Dunmer Assassin, 45, is great and I'm happy. I still play and just passed 520 hours. Right now I'm reading books and working up me minor skills hehe. I played though without reading anything so I made some mistakes. My biggest regret is only closing 17 gates. Being where I'm at now, near retirement, I tool around do a set of dungeons I like and reading lore. Occasionally I mess with the difficulty meter (ever try Sacre Tor or Sundercliff at 100%?) I read, now that I am done, that there are a total of 64 gates. I would love to do those now!

On one of my characters I completed the Mages Guild before the Thieves Guild. This caused some sort of glitch where my character could no longer sit down. I worked my way up through the Thieves Guild to The Ultimate Heist where I wasn't able to do the quest properly because I couldn't sit down at one stage.

That was a major regret.
