life after the patch..

Post » Sun Jan 03, 2010 5:02 am

so i know no one is perfect, and people are working on this..
but if bethesda is monitoring their boards, these are some after patch things i've found:

the game crashed when i opened the door to the mirror field at helios one. twice.

after a third attempt, i made it into the field, and then it started getting choppy and jumpy. that soon ironed itself out, only to have the sound get super screwy (technical term) and sound like someone was hitting mute and un-mute repeatedly. then it just crashed again.

the arms raising to the top of the screen thing is still happening.

npc's occasionally just walk knee deep in the ground. which is fun, but then they can't get anywhere you need them to. (example: not too much of a spoiler.. the captain in the office park doing his duty with me as back-up, couldn't get into the building he was heading toward because he was stuck.)

i found a radscorpion pinned vertically to a rock, still alive. it was neat because i thought maybe the legion crucified a radscorp, but then it started crawling down into the ground.

and once out of every.. maybe 15 times, i'll be in vats and my guy won't shoot a single shot, which results in never coming out of vats. he just stands there until he gets shot to death, taking it like a champ. albeit in slow-mo, which looks funny.. but annoying if i'm in the waste and haven't auto-saved or manually saved in a good stretch. i understand a good fix for this is to manually save more, but i shouldn't *have* to rely on saving for a game not to glitch me literally to death.

~~~~~
on the other side, i have found that, in the open world, the environment does load faster, load times between fast travel and opening up places has sped up, and my blocking within the environment hasn't been an issue. and i haven't (pre-patch or otherwise) had any save issues.
My problem is, the game worked semi fine for me yesterday before the patch. After the XBOX download, now all of a sudden I cannot enter VATS without the system freezing, causing me to have to hard reboot the XBOX.
I notices that for a while I was becoming over encumbered all the time and I went through my inventory to get rid of things I found the van graph combat amour. When I try to remove it it says it is a quest item. I really need the 20 pounds it takes up what can I do?
i was reading this on some fallout wiki site:
"Warning: Stealing this item from the locker next to Simon causes it to become locked to your character as a quest item. You will not be able to remove this item from your inventory."
i guess you'll have to either restart, or revert to a previous save.. (getting sick of that phrase from the bethesda help people)
The Old Cowboy Hate issue on The Strip should be their number 1 priority and the patch did nothing for it.
Why should it be number 1? because it's affecting me the most :[
EDIT: I was going to fix the typo from hate to hat but I think I'll just leave it
damn..
now i'm in the strip.. confronted benny, and taking the elevator to the subbasemant has crashed the game.
another new thing as well: npcs are now just falling down whenever i jump around them. although funny, not conducive to a fun gaming experience in terms of pushing the story forward.
For all of you who have problems with a freezing system:
I "solved" the problem via cleaning up the system cache of my xbox 360!!!
That will delete the "bad" update and you can use your VATS again.
In my opinion the game is unplayable without the VATS... so delete the cache and have fun till the next useful update comes out
Go to:
Console-Settings ---> memory ---> press "Y" ---> cleanup cache
If you have an older Dashboard update:
Console-Settings ---> memory ---> press "Y" ---> X, X, LB, RB, X, X
My game was playing fine before the patch. First time I loaded my most recent save after the patch, half my rep was gone (it listed three groups I had rep with/had met, but before the patch I had seven). Also, all my ammo was greyed out and unusable. I loaded my second latest save (which was four hours back) and everything was there. Go figure.
I would like to give a bit of word to the fact that the patch fixed most, if not all, of my glitches. I had the turning heads, floating NPCs, Companion problems, enemies stuck in rocks, and freezing issues. After I downloaded the patch, I have played for 8 hours and not one of these glitches has come back. I know this forum is set up to be talking about issues that arise but I wanted to put it out there that there are people who don't have these problems.
