How far could the NCR go?

Post » Mon Jan 04, 2010 3:21 pm

In FNV the NCR is at war in the Mojave and Baja Mexico and is also sprialing into corruption and higher taxes. Corporations can barely make a profit without bribing an offical, the major trade routes aren't safe and poverty with drug use is mass spread. Even if the Great Khans were destroyed, even if the legion was pushed back to Flagstaff, even if House was killed, even if everything turned out well for them they still have major internal issues. That said how long can the NCR expand without collasping?

They would probably stop after gaining complete control over the Mojave. ...unless they see some new shiny toy.

It would take a very long time to secure all of the legion territory. Would almot double the size of NCR. Would take generations. If they just stop caesar at the dam, they may just stop there for a decade or two. NCR can still go into Northern Nevada (New Reno) and into Oregon into Washington State. Chances are NCR and the Legion are also fighting along the California/Arizona border to the south and also fighing in Mexico.

If they were to totally wipe out Caesar and his Legion I could see NCR make it all the way to the Western border of Kansas.

Why do you believe that? I saw nothing in New Vegas that leads me to believe that they're even remotely close to collapsing.

NCR already controls Los Angels (Boneyard). NCR controls all the locations from FO1 and down into Baja. They control all the locations of FO2 but for maybe San Francisco. I can't see them going all the way to Mexico City.

Agreed they have problems but they arn't going to fall apart ouside of the Mojave Region anytime soon.

Not collapsing I think the fort + a little further is their current limit.
Untill they enfold the Mojave and those citizens join up as new recruits looking for fresh oppertunities for money.
Then who knows what they'll face or where.

Even with the legion defeated at Hoover Dam, I'd say they would have plenty more man power and other natural barriers between them.
That the NCR could not push too far without losing a battle at some point, and they'll know that.

Lets hope the legion beats the NCR, then dissolves into a bunch of little tribes again.

When I look at things, and look at the history of the world, many empires have become larger than the NCR under much more primatve circumstances without much technology. That said with simple institutional reforms I don't see why the NCR can't go MUCH further. Most of the faults in F:NV came from a lack of proper staregty by NCR officals. I'm not sure if they were overstrecthed as much as badly lead by Kimball and Oliver. For example at the Mojave Post there was no reason they couldn't of secured I-15 between Primm and the post for Caravans. A few troops posted at the gas station and police station could of insured the safety. One of the best actions in the game was when the NCR stormed the Prison.

Or just the general stragety when it came to the Mojave Campaign. It was obvious that House was in firm control of New vegas with his army of robots and backing by the tribes. That said why did they fell it necessary to post their largest numbers of troops just south of the city? I understand you want to boost your military presence in the region but with a army of neo roman thugs forming across the river you have more pressing needs. Besides the very fact that they tried to use a foreign military presence to gain support in NV is misguided at best. When you move south of Vegas and can't even build support in the slums, can't kill the fiends, can't provide jobs and housing and such for the slums and city you just present a bad image. You seem imcompent to the populus and worse yet they were.

Speaking of imcompentce the NCR could of been in a much better state of affairs if they would of simply,
"Secured I-15 for trade and commerce into New Vegas (and they would of eventually killed off what remained of the BOS with their larger numbers)
"Move rangers into the heart of rural populations (goodsprings, primm, even nelson) and build relations using civilian not military departments."
"Weaken Legion morale through the usage of non conventional warfare, I mean come on Cottonwood was a prime target for simple sniper attacks."
"Take the offense! Simple attacks on Legion camps in Nevada would halt all further offense."

If most military officers in the game can tell that the wait and see policy isn't working it's time for new top leadership. The problem isn't that the NCR is too bureaucratic but rather the top administators and executives have the wrong stragety for winning.

In all honesty I believe the NCR has a manifest destiny for them.

As far as their corrupt government controlled by brahmin barons would left them go for maximum profit. They'd probably run a national debt and beg the Shi Empire for loans and ship all their manufacturing there, LOL... IRONY!

Honestly, the best thing for the NCR is for them to LOSE at the Mojave, not win.

The NCR should go no further. Letting your people out to far out places may cause them to go rogue. Just look what happened to the Brotherhood of steel but that was for a good cause. The NCR is my least liked faction. They had almost no reason to be in Vegas & I believe all they want is power.

No reason to be in Vegas? They had every reason to be there. And NCR has grown corrupt since Tandi left. And any country wants more power :P

NCR would conncet its settlements with a railroad. As they move more East they just keep expanding the railroad. NCR also has radio and computer so they can communicate just fine over great distance. Also their carvans and soon I am sure people would stat copying the Mojave express if they don't already have something like it back in California.

I imagine the NCR could go very far if they had the proper leadership and logistics capabilities, both of which seem to be lacking in the Mojave. Another major factor deciding their rate of expansion would be their war with the Legion.
