[REL] Vality's Balmora Mod

Post » Wed Jan 06, 2010 10:57 pm

The mod is pretty much done, here are a few ingame screens:

I just need to fix up the tree mesh placement. I placed all the meshes back when I made the AI mod, so to make this new mod all I needed to do was to replace the trees/bushes. So I didn't need to place one mesh, I just need to fix up some of the placements - the new different sized trees make it a little complicated, as they sit at different depths into the ground, and some trees now overlap other trees, as well as buildings. So don't be suprised if you see a few floating trees and ferns, overlapping buildings etc on release, of course if I don't rush a release, there will be less problems.

I also might be adding falling leaves everywhere, I have done some which you will see in the video when I put it up. I can't say when the mod is going to be released, won't be that far away.

Work of beauty.

What did you decide about sounds? Will they conflict with BC sounds? You changed the IDs? Will you release 2 Esp versions? If you cover the entire BC area, then for me it'd be just fine to disable the original BC sounds and run your version alone, but there might be others with a different view on these things... ;)

EDIT: will you also add some sounds to Balmora itself? :)

Can I just ask a general question?

Vality's Balmora mod looks incredible, but I know there are a few mods that conflict with it. In retrospect, however, none of them seem at all like they can compete with this one in awesomeness.

Can anybody name a Balmora mod that conflicts with this one that is even worth it? I cannot, off the top of my head, think of a Balmora mod I've ever really wanted, except for this one. But I know that Balmora mods are practically clich?, so surely there's something... This is killing me.

Balmora Expanded probably conflicts with this.

Aha, but is that even worth it? Isn't it about four years old by now?

Does age preclude goodness? Whether you think it is 'worth it' depends on what you want out of a mod.

Balmora Expanded is worth a look, it's a pretty decent mod, I ended up turning it off because my computer at the time couldn't really handle it. A lot of Balmora mods just add a few little houses, someone posted a Balmora River mod that looked alright, adds a few things like boats and stuff to the river that won't conflict with this mod. The next version of my Balmora mod will conflict with it though, as I've added a bit of stuff to the whole river area almost right down to the coast.

I personally just prefer my game with pretty much no mods except for my own ones and a few texture replacers, but it wouldn't be that hard to get your favourite mods working together, it's just a matter of deleting or rearranging some of my trees to suit your mod list.

Thanks, Vality. I think I'm going to go with your mod; Balmora's not an aesthetically pleasing town because it is so flat and featureless. The only expansion mod that could really improve the look of it would be a mod that expanded the existing buildings like skyscraqers; expanding the town horizontally just seems like a bad idea to me.

I've played the Xbox version to death; Balmora's layout is pretty much burned into my brain. I'd rather see it look different rather than just bigger.

These look great - can't wait.

Vality, you have a new byname in my opinion, based on how many people have surrendered their Redoran alliances just so that they can spend more time in Balmora.

Vality. Singlehandedly responsible for more defections to House Hlaalu than Cassius Curio ever managed with his Lusty Argonian Maid.

Checking the screens I took it for granted that this would cause an FPS hit which I can't afford, which means I haven't checked it out until now. A big mistake - as there is no FPS hit to speak of and it looks amazingly good. I think I'll try Bycote's tip and add Bitter Coast sounds to Balmora as well.

BTW, how would I go about if I want to try out a different ground texture?

Anyway, gorgeous mod.

I made all the ground textures Bitter Coast textures, so replace your Bitter Coast textures I guess. I recommended Connary's textures but use whatever textures you want.

OK. Yeah, that's what I'm using. I'll try swapping those particular ones to something else.

EDIT: Well, this is weird. When I check out Connary's Bitter Coast textures in Photoshop I find nothing that looks close to my Balmora ground (and all Connary's look amazing btw). I'll check Bitter Coast ingame.

EDIT 2: It was Roads to Heaven that overroad Connary. So unchecking it "fixed" the issue.

Hello,

This mod looks fantastic but there is one problem: Connary's Bitter Coast Textures doesn?t exist anymore. At least I can?t find them anywhere, and the link in this thread is broken.

So, would any kind soul be able to re-upload them? It would be most appreciated.

Thanks.

Connary removed all of his re-texture mods because his new textures will be released soon.
Vality's mod still works without Connary's, it just doesn't look as nice.

Does anyone have the textures that can send them to this poor lost soul? Edit: I'm referring to rizzla, but thanks anyways Stacet and Arkngt :goodjob:

Anyways rizzla, don't worry, Uncle Connary will bring us some nice new textures somewhere before, during, or after Christmas time. Cookies and milk would probably be appreciated.

Thx Vality for this mod, I love Balmora much more this way.

I may be late... but I have found 2 texture/mesh bugs:

I'm using Connary's textures and the Texture fix mod.
