Skyrim has the best graphics you've ever seen?

Graphics aren't all that important to me...make it look like Oblivion but have the gameplay of Morrowind and i'll be content.

It'll be good, but not the best. Having seen what's being done with DX10, I doubt BGS is going to match that. But if it can make a bigger jump from Fallout 3 than from Oblivion to FO3, it's not going to be as noticable.

It will have good graphics, but not the best, especially with games like Crysis, ArmA2 and Uncharted 2 on the shelves.

Nope, but that's not what draws me back to TES anyway. Who knows, I might change my mind when I actually see something, but I doubt it.

They probably will. But I don't mind if the graphics are bad, I just want good gameplay.

Considering Oblivion and Morrowind before it at the time of their release, I don't think it's unrealistic to expect Skyrim to look pretty spectacular. For me, art style is more important than technical achievements or pushing hardware (all the polys in the world won't help if the vision and design of a game object is uninspired, lacking, or just plain goofy) - and animation equally so, at least. I really hope Skyrim's character animation is excellent.

I just fear that threads like these are the exact reason why devs spend more time making it look pretty rather than focusing on gameplay, story or mechanics
Myself, I couldn't care less if it has the greatest graphics ever seen or if it looks like morrowind again, as long as it's FUN and INTERESTING

Surely a question like this is completely down to a persons preference.

I can't say they will be the best ever, but Oblivion is up there with my 'favourites' and hopefully Skyrim will improve on that.
I'd be tremedously happy to see an improvement on Oblivion, but realistically I can't say they will be the best ever.

I'd far prefer greater content at loss of appearence though.
Or at least give it a bit more 'life' that Oblivion, in all it's beauty; lacked.

I like to think of Bethesda, in TES, as giving us a world full of detail and already a great game by itself both visually and gameplay wise. But then they leave it to the community to give the world it's finishing touches, allowing them to shape it in their own vision. Then with everyone who's not a modder being able to pick and choose various mods as well as elements from vanilla version really is part of what gives TES games their longevity.

I think that they will be good, but not Crysis. Reason?

The majority of the fanbase is on the PC.

I won't judge the graphics until I've seen screenshots or videos of the game. Although in the past, Elder Scrolls games have generally impressed in that regard upon release. Morrowind may look dated by modern standards, of course, but in 2002, it was quite a different story. And I can still recall how impressive Oblivion seemed when I first saw screenshots of it, though obviously, better looking games have since been released. But I can't be sure if Skyrim will have the best graphics in any game of its time, but given what Bethesda has done with the series in the past, I'd say they will probably make it look good. Which is just fine by me, as long as the gameplay still holds up.

Although if Bethesda is going for a release on the current generation of consoles, I'm not sure how much further the graphics can be improved, unless Bethesda is willing to include graphical options on the PC version that consoles won't be able to support. Still, I've seen Xbox 360 games which, I would say, look better than Oblivion, it's just a question of how much better they can look. But regardless, it hardly seems like a good idea to expect the best graphics ever from a game whose graphics we've yet to see.

I think the reason Morrowind and Oblivion looked "so good" was that you always knew "I can go anywhere in that world!". I'm pretty sure that there were other games with better graphics when Oblivion came out, but they were level-based and did not have such an open world. In Oblivion there was also the element of a "living, breathing world", where you can spot deer wandering through the forest and all that... it kind of influences your opinion about the graphics if you see things like that happen.

So... no, it won't have the best graphics I've ever seen. But nonetheless, I bet that I'm going to be utterly impressed by the graphics once I see some screenshots.
