Melee technique

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 10:47 pm

I seem to be coming off second best quite a lot in one on one melee battles so wondering what the best technique is .. i.e. as you are both flailing/spinning around are you better off waiting until you get a clear strike (face on) or is it best to just have high repetitions since the hit detection might not be not very accurate, especially since there are a lot of high pings out there. I try to use the former approach so it may just be I am a bit unco/slow but interested in opinions :)

I don't know, because none of those players were able to get that close and personal. LOL
Seriously, just spam and hope for the best. See you later today, DooM fellow! :D

When using melee, move in the direction of your opponent while sprinting, doing a regular jump, and using your melee. If you land your melee, you will lunge forward at your opponent. Sometimes it results in you getting behind him super fast.

OR

If an opponent is laying into you with a melee, if you time a normal jump at the right time, you will end up literally on top of him, and get 2 easy punches to his cranium. NOTE: this does NOT work on people with high pings.

Heh, yeah, especially when you're in the U.S. and on an NFOserver and there are people from across the world with 550+ pings and yours varies from 15-50.

Thanks for the tips, I like SDub's suggestions but the first one in particular sounds like high difficulty factor so I will probably stick to SPAM but will also try the old jump on head and smack him trick :)

If you're in armour mode it should only take 2 hits...if youre not then it can take 3. Pretty much armour mode it & you should win most 1 on 1's. Ive mainly been playing on xbox though & there seems to be a lot more drag towards the enemy player when punching.

Depends on the fight. If the enemy is right in your face crouch around to throw them off. If they're a little bit away, lunge at 'em like SDub suggested.

Also, there's a considerable delay between melees. If you miss one, chance are your enemy will land one. for this reason, it's a bad idea to just spam it.

What I often find myself doing is meleeing, then quickly rotating to make final adjustments and track my opponent.

Also, NEVER melee from cloak (unless you have a stealthkill prompt). It drains your your energy and it does about a quarter of the damage. Uncloak, then one-two. It'll only take two hits, regardless of armor or cloak.

It takes 3 hits if you have no energy, I believe. It still is 2 if you have energy and are not in armor, I THINK!

I thought of something else. If you have a secondary weapon out, you melee faster. So if you have time to pull out your Nova, for instance, you will hit faster.

On the flip side, if you're using a big ol' DSG or something that's great at hipfiring (a grendel) if you fire FIRST and then melee, it goes in rapid succession and you can almost insta-gib someone, provided you actually land your hipfire (with a DSG you practically have to put the barrel in his mouth).

Ask Tony how much he likes my DSG+melee combo :D

btw I find it hilarious when me and Crow are meleeing each other, and we're both crouched LOL

PS. thanks for that melee with Nova tip! I didn't know that...

If your latency is low enough you can try running/jumping away after the very first melee hit (or if they miss). Sometimes I manage to escape melee spam by simply running away and turn around to see my target still flailing around trying to melee, kill them with my gun :Pj

But yeah latency differences can really screw everything up.

Press melee button firmly once. Wait a moment. Wait a moment. Do a 180 degree turn. Wait a moment.

If he doesn't die by the time you've completed the 180 degree turn he is wall hacking.
