SneakStealthboys don't work in old world blues?

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 7:08 am

Heyo,

So I am playing Old World Blues right now and I have a character that is heavily stealth focused. I am level 19 and I have a sneak of ~70. Currently I am traveling solely in sneak mode everywhere I go and the second an enemy gets near me, line of sight or not, it turns to CAUTION, and forget sneaking up behind them, that ensures DANGER.

Likewise, stealthboys do NOTHING! For instance, I entered the DNA slicing plant where the cazadores and specimen 73 are and I killed all the regular cazadores, then used a stealthboy before opening the door to specimen 73. I was in sneak mode and invisible and the meter instantly said DANGER and the specimen started attacking me.

I thought maybe it was a small glitch, so I reloaded to before I went inside, used a stealthboy and crouched in sneak mode BEFORE entering. Immediately the meter said CAUTION and the second I got near the first cazadore it said DANGER. What the hell!

Is this a well-known glitch? Is there something I can do to fix it?

I recently got through OWB and found that sneaking of any kind was useless, besides the stealth suit quest. Enemies spawned very close to me and seemed to spot me if I was sneaking. I think it's just the DLC, similar to HH and the way enemies that spawned right around the player character.

Also: Welcome to the forums!!

Do you by chance not have Silent Running? If you don't, that's your problem. Otherwise....no idea.

Not going to lie, this sounds an awful like you left your pip-boy light on. I can't think of any other reason.

Nope, I thought of everything: I have Silent Running perk, pip-boy is off, using a stealth boy, native sneak is around 70, light armor, etc.

I literally retried the cazadores building and the securitron building six times each with different loadouts and stuff. There is NOTHING I can do to even get a HIDDEN status inside a building, or even maintain a CAUTION status!

I think some of those things you described are scripted. Like the specimen 73 attacking you as soon as you open the door.

Hmm, so I'm guessing no one else has experienced lowered sneak capabilities in Old World Blues?

I know it's not a script or anything like that. I'm actually trying to determine if it's a glitch or not. If no one else has experienced similar problems, then I know it's a glitch. However, if others have also noticed that sneaking is particularly difficult in OWB then I know that it is inherent in the Addon.

I'd say it's inherent in the DLC. I also have a hard time sneaking in Old World Blues.

100 in sneak with associated perks does next to nothing. It's the DLC, actually HH and LR are just as bad

I'd say it's an effect of close proximity of enemy spawning and increased enemy perception that makes sneaking ineffective. It also doesn't help that enemy respawning is so frequent.

Whew! Thanks you guys for letting me know that it isn't glitched. I was looking all over the different wikis and forums for known glitches related to my problem. At least now I can just play to the best of my ability. Thanks Bethesda for punishing all Stealth-based players! :P

Seriously though, I am glad that I waited to get the super cheap discounted ultimate edition of FNV on steam, instead of buying it when it was new. Fallout 3 was WAY better!

Feel the same way. It's also why I can't waste my time reading all the Fallout 4 speculation threads. It's just back and forth arguing what's right or what's wrong with somebody's ideas. Just let people have their own ideas and leave it be.

Sorry didn't mean to open a can of worms! Honestly, it was a very BIASED comment: my main reference for why I said it is playing as a stealth/melee class seemed much easier (or more supported) in Fallout 3. Whereas overall, stealthin' it up doesn't really help too much in FNV, and I end up playing more of a sniper class.

Also, the storyline was better :P

Nah let them argue. They're only arguing because they're passionate about the designs and want to see them return, FO3 fans typically wanting an exciting world to explore and FO:NV fans typically wanting another fascinating story to follow. It's not out of intolerance for each other's opinions, but rather one team wants to see another beautiful painting made and the other wants to see another thought-provoking novel. I think it's good both are passionate about their "art."

Anyways, back on topic. It IS possible to sneak in the Big MT, though not super close to enemies. Basically, you'll notice patterns in WHERE they spawn eventually. The spawns work a little different than others and seem time based rather than "oh he entered the cell so let's generate them," so you simply have to keep an eye on the spawn(s) and typically snipe from decent distance to kill. Approaching the spawn typically means you'll just be detected.

Ah thanks. I did start to notice a few spawn points. Specifically outside The Cuckoo's Nest several of the trauma harnesses and lobotomites spawn within detectable range.

I typically remember spending 50% of the DLC's in CAUTION, 45% in DANGER and 5% in HIDDEN.

You have a sneak of -70 lol you're just a walking firework  , I presume you mean 70 sneak?
Fonv is fairly buggy (who woulda thought) so first guess is a bug or the pip boy light (turn on by holding the button which brings up the pip boy).

I always thought it was because the enemys that spawned were much higher lvl than us then it came down to that math formula where if we have a 100 sneak and we near an enemy thats 6 lvls above us, our sneak would be more like 60 or 50 plus added that the enemys have a high persception that brings the sneak even lower.

If I ever play OWB I'll always make sure to have animal friend perk and robotics expert perk. Makes the DLC tolerable
