I don't understand this hate with MMORPGs.
It's not exactly the same as has always been done. But since it's not in a main game people can't wail "They're selling out and turning TES into another CoD clone!" as is usually wailed. Now it's "ZOMG it's like WoW there'll be no more of them!"

I don't even like MMOs and think TESO will be lackluster at best, and have no intention at this time of buying it, but some of the forum reaction has been plain unreasonable.

well from what has been said the elder scrolls online was going to be similar to Dark ages of camalot. which was a great game. and the big feature was going to be the same world dungeons for everybody like daoc.
though for the hate in mmos id say thats prolly form the grind that they require from them anymore, the fees, constant updates that bug alot and leave you unable to play for weeks till manual update comes out, game being dependent on internet which isnt fun in internet dropping.

for me its just the patching issue, dont like paying for a game and not being able to play for a few weeks when they update.

I tend to hate MMOs often more because the people playing are usually complete jerks who think their kill count in PVP makes them interesting at all. Ever since I encountered the terrible consumer service that plagued Runes of Magic, I just gave up on MMOs. Even most of the ones with a higher nice people percentage end up getting boring too fast. DC Universe Online killed any interest I had in MMOs almost entirely just because people were kill stealing all the time. In fact, that is why I normally rage quit them. I start feeling like there's no point if I have to deal with people stealing kills on purpose.

Only time I ever felt any joy or saw a happy game in an MMO was Earth Eternal, and apparently, too many nice people means the game isn't allowed to exist. League of Legends made me terrified of all the people who played because I was told to... frack off(they said the word that has an F and is a four letter word, though) off just because I didn't know what I was doing.

I only hate multiplayer stuff in most cases because it's so competitive. I can enjoy playing Tekken 6 online, but unless it's Pokemon, I will just stay away from it.

i can agree with the over compeditiveness in them, but i did like pvp. though you did have to grind to get good enough gear to really compete in wow. a big issue i had in wow was getting into arena. i had to grind battlegrounds to get good enough gear to be able to stand a chance in arena and then i couldn't get a group to get in arena as i hadn't been in arena before hand. kind of odd that you need to have been in arena to get into it.

End of the series? I don't think so. The profitablitiy of the franchise almost guarantees its continuation, from a business perspective.

It will change my perception of the series as a whole. If a series of books comes out that is successful for a particular plotline, and then a publisher, to milk it's fame, releases a book that's plot refutes what is stated in the original series, then one's perception of the series as a whole might waver.

I honestly don't think that TES:O will do anything to end the Elder Scrolls series, as it is far too popular for it to fail commercially and will not limit the progress of the original series, but it's addition simply mires my initial understanding of the TES series, so my complaints are purely vain in their ideas, but no less important than any others.

Amen, I agree with all your comment in this thread.

Basically Im just asking your opinions and so the reason why I would think that is because if the MMO would cover all of Tamriel well then making a new game in the main series would be killed because people would already see all of Tamriel and that excitement and exploration factor might knocked down for the players because theyve seen it all.
The MMO takes place one thousand years before Skyrim, its in an entirely different era. So the excitment and exploration factor would be completely different. The Cities and Towns in the Elderscrolls Online could be the dungeons and ruins in the Elder Scrolls VI.

so long as they dont change cities nd landmarks that have been around in the games for quite a long time anyways. ie if mournhold got tripled in size or vivic got shrunk down id have severe problems with that. i could imagine people form oblivion reacting to not seeing the white gold tower lol.

I will not be playing it I can tell you that much. I'm a huge Elder scrolls fan but it just looks stupid, I REALLY hope it's not the end of the series, but I don't think theres much chance of that. Even if it's a total flop and no one at all plays it, Zenimax is huge and The Elder Scrolls series has been arround long enough that it's practically unkillable.
