Where to go, what to do?

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 6:50 am

Ok new to oblivion. I have the 5th Anniv edition. Played Skyrim on xbox and loved it, same class type really on 2H warrior.

Modded with un-leveled items & mobs, which I guess is part of my problem.

I didn't like vanilla with mobs that level with you, so I modded as above. (I'd like to feel powerful at some point! lol)

Currently I am doing the odd fighters guild quest or just exploring here and there. I am avoiding the main quest for now.

My problem is I keep getting killed in most dungeons, tombs etc and wildlife like lions simply eat me.

My char is lvl6, custom warrior, sword & board, restoration for healing. Alchemy is still low too, but the odd heal pot is helping.

Where should I be questing and am I gimping myself not doing any spells apart from restoration healing?

Stats, race and birthsign please :twirl:
What are your majors, and are u attempting to power game?

btw, lions simply eat everything. Honestly, even my level 30 2 handed skirmishers get a little apprehensive battling a mountain lion. Grizzly bears are much easier.

Modded games are kind of hard to answer for, too. If you're running an unleveler mod you have to expect to get eaten a lot, I think.

At least one of the "unleveling" mods makes the enemies location-dependent instead. So you just don't go to certain areas until you're ready to.

In the un-modded game, you won't see a lion until around level 10-12, when you're at least able to survive against one at a time.

It sort of sounds like you modded the game to make it harder. . . and succeeded.

My suggestion would be to uninstall the mods affecting difficulty, set the slider to default, make sure your character's critical fighting skills are moving up by at least three for each character level and that you are getting reasonable attribute gains for the nature of your character. Spend some time each level clearing bandit or marauder dungeons (depending on your armor preference) to ensure you are picking up reasonable armor and weapons for your level. Vanilla mountain lions (like other natural forest predators in the game) do not level, so when you first encounter them they should be tough (that is why you won't see them at level 6 in vanilla) and later on they will become easier. Even foes that do level, primarily just gain hit points making your fights take longer at higher levels.

In short, spend some time mastering the vanilla game, then consider modding aspects that you are very comfortable changing.

This is the most excellent advice of all. :)

Think you are right there.

I only modded the game as when I tried it before (on the xbox) the mobs leveling along with me were a game-breaker) I wanted to be able to take on mobs lower than my level and stand a good chance as opposed to every goblin having daedric plate when I have.

The red numbers indicate that the stat is reduced - typically by having a "Damage X" spell cast on you. You can get it restored at the altar in a chapel, or at a wayshrine. It could also be a disease, which is fixed the same way, or by a cure disease potion or just eating Mandrake root. Take a look at the active effects tab on the magic page of your journal to find out about diseases.

You can also get green numbers when the stat is boosted (e.g by a Fortify effect on your armor).

For what it's worth, I'd say that your stats (except for the red) look fine for a Nord at level 6. Your primary problem has to be the leveling mod.

Being a numpty, I had forgot about the difficulty slider......

It was above halfway, so I pulled it back to half-way and voila I can put up a decent fight now. (as long as I pick my fights! Minotaur Lords a tad too hard just yet!)

Thanks for advice, good community here
