Why Highwaymen Are Always Khajit?

Oh, I don't doubt that. The bugs and radiant AI are what makes Oblivion worth coming back to, they add to the fun factor.

It's actually a very sad story. The Khajiit come to Cyrodiil to form a guild of ratcatchers, but on seeing the size of the rats there, decided to take their chances as outlaws instead :lmao:

If you go down to a bandit dungeon and have very high personality or charm them all will ask for gold like regular highwaymen, maybe that happened.

Literally, in English, what is the difference between highwaymen, bandit and robbers anyway?

Technically, they're all the same, but the term "highwayman" in Western lore has connotations of romance and adventure. Highwaymen are more like Robin Hood. They're rogues, but they are likely to be kind to the poor and weak.

Really? My character is poor and weak one, but highwaymen still say "this is a hold up!pay up or else..."

If you really don't have any money, they will generally give you a free pass. Also, if they like you a lot, they won't bother you.

Anyway, that's the difference, in old lore. The "highwayman" is often a romantic rogue, in old songs and stories.

I would say "robber" is a generic term, for anybody who steals. A bandit is more specific. Bandits can steal, but they can also terrorize, kidnap, kill. Bandits may more may not work in teams.

I never knew what the word "highwayman" meant (and I've never looked it up), but it sounds like it's termed for bandits who specifically terrorize roads. Or, as glargg says, they're "rogues who are kind to the poor and weak", but steal from those who have.

Slightly jollier bandits who hold up carriages and mirthfully offer them the choice of paying up or being brutally slaughtered.

Yes, this more or less. The "Your money or your life" line is historically attributed to highwaymen as well. And they're also http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uw1bHaUk1CM.

Maybe there are others on the consoles to make it a little more individual  But seriously, I am sure there were redwardons. My boyfriend has also seen argonians.

Nope, they are only male and only Khajiits. There are "Bandits" and all sorts of other NPCs that come in various races, but Highwaymen are always male Khajiits. :)

I just realize this...all highwaymen i encounter are Khajit, is it their official profession?

In a way, insofar as Khajiit have a natural tendancy to steal.

And some Redwardons (sorry, I dunno their correct English name.)

Redguards.

Beware the http://uesp.net/contains lots of spoilers and will tell you more than you wanted to know.

In our world in English language:

A Thief is anyone who steals.
A Robber is any thief who steals openly by means of force.
A Highwayman is any robber who primarily works on the highway (roads). (The connotations of romance are true, as is the habit of asking for money before applying force.)
A Bandit is any robber who works as part of a band (gang/group).
A Burglar is any thief who steals secretly by means of stealth.

So, these are all types of thieves.
Robber and Burglar are exclusive of each other, as they use different methods (force vs stealth).
Highwaymen may or may not be also bandits (part of a band).

Highwaymen in western American lore did exactly what they do in Oblivion. They charged a toll for safe passage on roads they decided were "theirs". They were slower to violence preferring to coerce the money from you. They are like a specialized robber who carefully picks targets and generally has more intelligence. Though Oblivion's AI does not show that.

Also Johnny Cash, Kris Christopherson, Willy, and Waylon.

I finally found the http://www.giantbomb.com/profile/ignor/tes4-oblivion/52-400327/180/51-753005/ I was talking about. Luckily I had uploaded the image to Giantbomb before I got banned.
I don't think I used any mods at the time, so maybe it's just a rare bug?

I think that is an obviously a bug

Highwaymen will always say "Pay up, or else", no "Rumors"

Female Khajit Highwaymen i encounter have no voice but saying "Pay up, or else", so it must be a bug
