Thoughts on E3 Gameplay

As for the sandbox feeling. In C1 it wasn't hard to make it, since the whole thing was an island, mostly with vegetation, so you could just run around and aim your objectives from a lot of ways. Now we're in a city, it's much more difficult to create environment what will look like a city and gives a little sandbox feeling too. That's why they had to make a bit linear and add the new approach system. You will still have the ability to cross your pre-built paths and I'm pretty sure that you'll be able to find other ways to approach than just the pre-made paths. I'm really looking forward for the game and I have nothing more to say about it. I'll wait for a demo just like MMAMickey. Anyways, I think it cannot be worst than C2, it has lots of bugs in single- and multiplayer, but hell yeah, it's Crysis and I really enjoy playing it.

Oh and the foregrip, I can see it already in the name of the servers. Scar+foregrip=kick/ban. :D

Regarding sandbox/path options - that screenshot above isn't a good representation of what the actual game will offer - it's just something cooked up for the trailer. Can't give away details but there will be multiple ways to approach the dam in this level and you didn't even get to see what the lower area looks like (damn demo was cut short ) so rest assured, there will be much more awesome to come

They gave waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyy too much time to Dead Space 3. They had like 15 minutes.

I really hope you guys knock it out of the park with the story, I heard you wanted a deeper character storyline. I would love it for Prophet to put the nail in Master Chief's coffin :-D

Crysis 2 was open...

Vertically. That may not be the open that you are used to but it still is open.

Have some faith man, Crysis 2 was basically a test to see if it could run on consoles. With Crysis on it I'm sure they confirmed that they could do more with 3.

I thought Far Cry 3 was the standout at E3. It even has a bow in the game :D

Feels more like Crysis than the Crysis sequels ))))))))

Wait, did you just suggest Crysis might kill Halo?

sure did, with Bungie now a multi-platform developer, the other Halo games without them have been sub par.

What do you mean, "the other Halo games since Bungie"?

The only Halo game released post-Bungie has been Anniversary, which is simply Combat Evolved with a (pretty bad) new graphical layer pasted on top. It wasn't even made by 343, they gave the job to Saber Interactive.

343's first game will be Halo 4, which doesn't release until November. Protip: don't talk about something if you haven't got the faintest clue what you're on about. It makes you look very silly.

Exactly my point, Halo without Bungie is sub par to the Halo franchise. and the Master Chief character is probably the weakest protagonist yet. Master Chief's art concept is a direct rip off of ID Software's DOOM character. So yeah I would like to see a character like Prophet surpass a lame protagonist like Master Chief.

Since we're on the topic of protagonists in a FPS now. Master Chief and Prophet have got nothing on Duke Nukem as a protagonist. But at least Prophet is original unlike Halo and Master Chief. Who basically stole the entire Doom idea then brought it to console and changed a few things.

GameSpot had Crysis 3 on their live stream a while ago. They showed a LOT more gameplay than what was seen at EA's press conference.

Starts at 2:50

You almost sound like a regurgitation of one of the videos by Zero Punctuation. He did the exact same comparison, DID YOU RIP OFF OF HIM!?

I can't recall which video it was, however I think you need to also realize ideas are usually refined from something that came before them. It's rare to have a totally new concept that can't be related to something that came before it.

What I didn't like:

- Weapons still jammed up under your nose
- Same "streamlined" 3 suit modes, no separation of speed/strength
- Same CoD style gunplay, ie ADSing at people 5 feet iin front of you
- Slow shiny armour mode
- "Hacking" is basically holding a button while looking at a turret, adds nothing to core gameplay as far as I can see

What I did like:

- Ummm....silencer on the SCAR?

I have no idea who that is. If he's a YouTube commentator I probably never saw him because I can't stand watching boring game play with a nerds comments. Too many of those guys need to get some BASS in their voice.

Hacking looks too easy and adds little to the game
I think hacking should have a little minigame (like in Bioshock or something) and if you take too long enemies get alerted to your position. And failing the hack should have consequences so maybe you might have to take a different route or something.
That would add a lot more depth to the game

Also, the Crysis 2 nanosuit is just not well-suited to big areas, bring back NS1!

Neither Crysis nor Halo has a single good/original character between them.

Hey guys, maybe Crytek reads these forums? Try being nice and state what you like and don't like instead of bashing a game that's in pre-alpha. They know what we want, and it will be implemented in the future. Reanimating ALL the weapons so it doesn't feel and look like Crysis 2 take's a long time, but i think it will stop this "Crysis 2.5" ****.
I think it will be a great game, and i'm 100% sure Cytek listened to the fans, but i would like Crysis 1 style nanosuit modes, crysis 1/battlefield multiplayer, redone sounds (crysis 2 sounds were too unrealistic and less powerful for me), and an environment that felt alive.

The demos and gamplay have gotten me excited. Looks pretty good so far but the things I took as a problem (as others have mentioned):

Guns still too close to the screen. Would be nice to have a fov option to scale weapons like in Counter-Strike Global Offensive without having to bust out the in-game console.

"Speed" mode is still just a regular sprint that svcks energy. Was excited when a read a hands-on and read them switching to speed mode but when I saw the gameplay demos it was same as C2. :/

Hacking looks too simple to really be a worthwhile addition. If there was a sort of minigame implemented whereas failure results in an alarm to your presence or you get damaged or something then it might be interesting. They said they were still working on it so let's see what happens.

Typhoon gun looks alot like a G36 rifle (that's what I thought it was when I first saw it lol).

Asides from that the demo they showed running the xbox version looked like it ran relatively smooth so far. Also liked the environment they showed (reminds me of The Last of Us).

lol if anything, A_Selfish_Gene I'd say you're the Halo fan boy. Yeah Crysis is a lot more original than Halo, Bungie ripped off ID Software. If you proved anything from your posts it's that you're nothing but a forum troll. You made an account on here to blast Crytek about their AI, and for their setting for Crysis 3, and me for saying I want more character depth. You get offended when I said that 343 studios hasn't make a legit Halo game and it's over for them, you sound like you need to take off the Halo fanboy glasses. Halo is DONE for without Bungie. Why not go over to their forums, cause we don't need another troll on this site, it's already riddled with enough of your kind.

Halo isn't dead...I think Halo 4 will breathe new life into the series. You have yet to give 343 a chance and the content they've created so far is good. Also, half of the dev team (somewhere around there) that worked on Bungie's side of Halo were 343 employees. Stop being such an ignorant child and realize that their can be more than one great game. I would like to see both franchises succeed along with many others. You're the one who is getting of topic, this was a post for gameplay thoughts and you argued that Crysis is better than Halo. Please, stop with the unnecessary bickering.

I remember in some Crysis 2 interview one of the Crytek devs said "Halo was full of bullsh*t characters" or something :P

Also, from the gameplay video I saw at certain points it said on screen "Press [something] to equip bow"
I hope they remove that, STOP HOLDING PLAYERS' HANDS AND TELLING THEM WHAT TO DO!

Are you blind or something? 343 hasn't made a Halo game yet. Their first title, Halo 4, isn't out until November. Try actually reading what I'm typing.

Neither Halo nor Crysis is original. Halo, however, has bigger brand recognition, so it'll sell more. If you honestly think Crysis 3 will outsell Halo 4, you need your head checked. That's nearly as stupid as saying it'll outsell MW3.

Last time I checked, fanboys didn't claim their title was unoriginal.

Finally, how about you stop calling somebody a troll purely because they happen to not agree with you? If you look over these replies, you'll notice several other people have noted the bad AI, derp. I suppose they're trolling too?

It's just that the guns are a bit too close, sprint is a bit meh but I can understand that it might be like that so you don't go through the game too quickly :D FOV and something else makes the game a bit less fun, I don't know why... nanosuit skins plz.

What the heck are you talking about, man. Get yourself straight. The best game ever made was and still remains Max Payne. That′s it. Crysis 1 was pretty good let′s
say worth playing. Crysis 2 was ok but nothing more. I played Crysis 2 at some guy′s home. And what I saw...Let′s say it was mediorcre. Perhaps,
the guy couldn′t play properly ′cause he got every second killed. :):)
