peer to peer

Post » Mon Jan 11, 2010 9:41 am

ok so in the past i have seen games that have peer to peer but are very laggy , but somehow somtimes they work just fine... im not sure what the difference is in the connection but it will work sometimes.. so this is a question designated towards the developers and plz answer if you can... what is your take on making a peer to peer conection for the consoles, basically im asking what are you going to do about the lag or have u already fixed that problem..... so if u can plz respond either the devolopers or anyone who would know the honest truth to that question...

How bad the game lags on peer to peer depends on the net code as well as how good the connection of the host is. Also the more good connections in the game the better it will run but the host is usualy the main factor even though others can effect the game.

It really comes down to which you like playing on more, Im sure SD would make a good net code to make sure lag would be minimal on consoles but no matter which system your on there will be moments of lag. I have played on dedicated servers for both PC and console and had horrible lag as well as none at all, same with PvP. I would rather get it on console since I dont own a rig good enough to play it on PC.

dedicated servers means it's all down to the connections, not the host, wich would make pc the better option if your afraid of lag.

and don't be afraid of the requirements, brink is working on an outdated engine, though they have seriously modified it it should easily run on older setups.

so would you say that the requirments would be no more than 2 gigs of ram and a moderedtly decent uprgraded graphics card because my computer has 3 gig of ram and a AMD Athlon™ II Neo K125 (1.7GHz, 1M L2 cache) + ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4225 Graphics chip and i guess i could always put more ram in my computer if neccessary

PC gets servers... consoles get shafted....

nice... awesome being appreciated.

Question to the Video Game development Industry.... why oh why do you presume that console gamers are mindless moronic casuals?

I want ded servers
I want server lists (not matchmaking)
I want customizable controls

Are these things unreasonable for all platforms? no, not at all... but for some reason many devs forgo some or all of those on their console release, while doing it for the PC release.

I'm tired of quite frankly being so grossly insulted by game developers for my choice of gaming platform.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to pick the best game server to join comparing Ping, #Players, Game mode/map, etc and choosing what best fits you. I guarantee I can do a better job picking then ANY "artificial intelligence"

Just cause I prefer a level playing field, and gamepads over mouse/keyboard, does NOT make me mentally handicapped.

Please stop treating me so.

Well ... consoles do have that really casual idea behind, while the PC as a gaming platform is more and more abandoned, because it's too much about competitive/hardcoe gaming.

Because consoles get all the exclusives and PCs get nothing, it's payback.

Can we please not start a PC vs Console war here. Or I am sure this thread won't be around for long.

it has nothing to do with the game devs, it's up to Microsoft and Sony to allow dedicated server access for consoles, it would allow for user created conrent which wouldn't be under their control and therefore they couldn't charge for it. Consoles are all about the money, not customer satisfaction. Look at Black Ops, nearly unplayable because of lag and still the top first week seller.

Don't blame the game devs when it's the nature of consoles to be system exclusive

I believe you are thinking of Section 8.
You could set up your old xbox and make that into a dedicated server.

You can blame Treyarch there, though. People say on consoles the lag happens, if you have too many friends in your list, because the game keeps updating them (Youtube-commentators are screwed :D ). And on PC it happens, because BlOps is probably one of the worst ports ever happened.
