why does everyone assume the game ends

Post » Sun Jan 17, 2010 9:20 pm

i seen on the vault it says the game has a definitive ending that doesnt mean you cant continue after the main story no where does it state you cant continue after the main story all i see definitive meaning is that the ending wont be a cliff hanger so to speak so until we see the words (cant continue after main quest) we should stop assuming thats what it means

I agree 100%. People just heard that I guess, and by that I mean all the weird stuff I've heard: Like we die and that ends the game?!?! What is that?

It's from some interview. Go look at The Vault (Fallout wiki).

I don't think the game will end after you complete the game, I mean check out the feedback from fallout 3 after the game ended and you couldn't play on, Bethesda ended up making a new DLC which allowed you to continue on..I think that Obsidian will listen to the consumer and make the game open-ended after you complete the game...but if not, they will probably do it on porpous to spark a reaction into creating a new DLC which allows you to continue on...so they basically deliberatly ended the game after the ending in a quick plan to con some more money out of us through the new DLC and be able to play oh I don't know...an extra 5 quests in addition to the game not ending....I'm not one to complain and if it does resort to this...hell I'll buy the DLC, but even if the game does end after you complete it....they will more than likely release DLC to continue after....its in everybodies best interest, the consumer being able to carry on the adventures of FO:NV and the games company to con extra cash out of us ;)

That's pretty much confirmed. You could ask that question in the thread you know is already discussing this. Or alternatively, actually read what people have been saying there.

In the CORE game, yes it will end. Game over, credits, the whole bit. That's what I get from the interview. Have another listen.

By the sounds of it, DLC may allow a player to continue, but as far as the core game itself, as it's released, you will not be able to wander around the wastes after you complete the MQ.

In my opinion its not that big of a deal, usually the plot does a nice job of telling you when the game is coming to a close so if i was worried about it ending i would hold off on the final mission, or i would start a new character. Then when the DLC hits and lets me play as my faithful original character again ill accept it

:cryvaultboy: i agree with the OP, obsidian definately is in touch with FO3 players concerns, they already are adding new weapons, more buildings we can go inside, scopes on weapons, silencers, better control over companions etc, they are very aware of the backlash with FO3 and the abrubt way in which it ended and short main quest, so far they seem to be adressing all of those issues, if gameplay does stop its prob after a much longer main quest and not in such a way as to where it leaves you possibly without a previous save in order to finsh other sides quests etc.

Maybe it will go like this:

Its the end of the final quest and you have two options:
1) do something that will obviously kill you (for example shoot yourself)
2) leave to do other quests

then DLC comes around with a 3rd option:
shoot the guy, or whatever the option has to do with... That way it wouldn't end up with a "locked in the purifier" situation where the player goes, "oh sh*t, wtf is this? Now I need to load a save?!"

It's been confirmed by Larry that there will be no free-roaming after the main quest.

That basically means that when the Main Quest is done, a giant "Game Over" screen appears.

Yeah in the interview Larry Liberty said something to the effect of, that after the main quest is over you wont be able to wonder around and see the effects of your decisions first hand. So maybe the strip or the air base for the NCR is completely destroyed. On a related note to DLC I don't think they will be releasing a DLC that lets you extend the MQ like F3 did. They may make DLC that is not related to the MQ or adds new areas but I get the feeling they wont be extending this story or raising the lvl cap either. They may add a DLC similar to Point Lookout but nothing similar to Broken Steel IMO.

If Obsidian isn't going to be a complete ass of an company, the game won't end when you finish the main story line. If they are a complete ass, they will make you pay for it, unless you mod it.

At about 26 minutes into the interview linked on this thread about the game ending is where it is stated, the game has a definitive end.

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1096224-new-vegas-confirmed-to-have-an-ending-that-ends-the-game/page__st__40

And, since we have a thread on this issue, let's keep the discussion there please.
