Dynamic Lighting

Post » Thu Jan 21, 2010 3:23 am

I have just started opening up the construction set and (re) learning it. :read:

I noticed that the Torches are set to Dynamic. I assume this means their lighting is dynamic.

But what I want to know is, what is dynamic lighting itself? Any real life examples would help greatly.

Thank you all in advance! :thanks:

Real life examples? Hm...

Torches. :P

Dynamic lighting, typically, is lights that update as they move. That's compared to old-style static lighting or some kind of baked lightmap, which can't change after it's been generated. Since most lights update in MW, the difference is more in how they're handled by the engine, I think (expected to move more or something like that).

So it is light that makes one area brighter then the surroundings or highlights that area basically?

no, light that can move, rather than being stuck in one place, in other words, static.

compare dynamic shadows to static shadows. static shadows do not move. dynamic shadows move.

with that torch, you can pick it up, and its light will go out, you can then equip it, and the light will be centered on you when you move. if the light was static, it would be stuck to its position with no way to move it.
