One word. "Multiplayer"

Post » Fri Jan 22, 2010 5:21 pm

Seriously. Someone needs to get on the ball on this.

We NEED a MMOG, or MMORPG that is based on the Fallout Universe. No time limits, High level limits, incredibly large world to explore, ghouls, radscorpions , super mutants, enclave, BOS, outcasts, crazy drug addicts, prosttutes, guns armor stimpacks and crazed Robots, what's not to love?

Simply put, it's what we want, what we need. Make it more like Fallout 1/2/Tactics overall - add physics and 3D graphics, make sure to work out "jumping on top of things" errors like getting stuck, update swimming to have better control, add useful skills for production such as Fishing/Hunting/Scavving (for resource gathering of Scrap Metals and such) and turn this Universe into something we can log in, day after day, month after month, and never be done with.

What you are proposing is more of a single player sequel, done in mmo style.

I, for one, am excited about he Fallout mmo coming up, but don't think that it can remain true to the fallout world with more than, say, 100 players a world (multiple worlds a server, maybe?).

Personally I like your line of thought, but I also understand what a massive undertaking such an MMO would be. Personally, I'm hoping for a playable game when it gets released, because I don't think it's feasible to create a truly "fallout" MMO. But fallout is different things to different people.

Kind of like Amsterdam (like how I tied in to the prosttutes and drug addicts in your post?).

JESUS CHRIST, NO!!!

First some people want the GECK and mods and the 360, and now this....

Edit: And there would be no VATS, which svcks for console users because I cannot get a shot without my mouse.

Wait, what? I'm lost.

Did you mean that this is a bad idea, because it is a mere pipe dream, impossible to accomplish in reality?
Or that Fallout has already been watered down to appease the consumer?

Either way: if a Fallout MMO is to become a reality the entire concept behind MMO's needs to b rethought.
Our current standards are simply too different from what is needed for the true "fallout feel"

Again Fallout is different things for different people.

I do think that if an MMO is made it should be more in the vein of the two early games.

I am saying it would be bad, because IMO, it would not be a good thing for the Fallout series.

What would be bad: the MMO, it's execution, or it's effects on future games.

Again, what is officially canon has no bearing on what you believe is canon. Many people on this forum consider Fallout 3 a spin-off regardless of who owns the title.

And then there is the point: why would it be bad for the series for a game to be released? If it is bad, it will be regarded as an exapmle of what not to do. If it is good, but non-canonical, what stops you from enjoying it as a standalone title, and furthermore how can any game enjoyed by a small group of dedicated fans be universally "bad"?

I think that, while a Fallout MMO doesn't make sense, there can be no "damage" done to the series through the creation of one.
Some will like it, some won't. But it will have little more impact on the series overall than did Tactics, or BoS.

Unless, of course, it is awesome, and therfore makes the series infinitely better.

I use more appositives when I'm tired.

I really want to play a multiplayer Fallout game. I was going to but the DLC for Fallout 3 but i just keep thinking; once i'v completed the DLC then what? so i don't think i'll bother with it.

The thing is though, the Fallout world is perfect for an Online RPG. I'd be happy if the world was full of NPC (as it is in Fallout 3) but also lets 10-20 people play in the same game. Every time i'm wondering through the wast land i always think how good it would be good to see a real player walking across and track him just for fun. Even when i go into one of the now empty basments/dungen/vaults/caves I always think that if Fallout 3 was online, this would be a great clan hideout.

And VATS would work. You couldn't stop time but you could have it run in real time were the chance of hitting your target changed as the player moved.

Good morning thread!

I would have to agree entirely with Blackjack: in that the fallout world is terrific for an online RPG, but the number of players in a given world would have to be severely limited for the experience to be effective.

With fewer players per game-world, it might even be feasible for the game to have an overarching story, which you would all have to work together on.

I would add the condition, that without shortwave radios players can not correspond in in-game chat unless they are really close to eachother.

Personally I think that Fallout's reputation for strong story and characters, along with its solid mechanics, makes it excellent for an online RPG, and it could very well revolutionize the RPG world, introducing the idea that a party of players can be a part in a grand, well designed, plot and/or story. If the game ends up like this, I look forward to playing it.

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Project_V13_FAQ is the Fallout MMO currently in production. There are problems with its production at current, and may have to be cancelled.

Bethesda aren't interested in making MMOs. Zenimax has an online team, but it's less than likely they would work on a Fallout MMO anytime in the near future, assuming Interplay no longer held the MMO right to Fallout, which is still being contested. Zeminax are likely to be working on a TES online project.

What exactly have Bethesda said? Let me guess.... "fallout is a single player experience". :sadvaultboy:

I don't necessarily want an MMO, especially if the graphical quality would be affected. I just want to be able to play with at least one friend/person.

I love single player RPG's and i love fallout 3 but surely i can't be the only one that feels lonely wondering around the wastes. I'm board with RPG that make me feel like i'm the only special/real person in the world and everyone elese (the NPC's) is predictable and feel limited in terms of the interaction with the player.. Just being able to play with one real person would make the world of difference to a game like this. Even in Oblivion i think it was a mised opertunity to let players fight eachother in the arena.

SNIP

Bethesda's comment isn't in relation to Fallout. They have stated they like making single player games. Their Gamebryo engine is tailored for single player. If anyone was to make an online project, it would be Zenimax. Which is likely what they're doing, with TES.

I don't mind about graphical quality, it's secondary to what I look for in a game. I'd be intrigued too see what a Fallout MMO would bring to the table, I've never been interested in MMOs, but if anything could get me into them, Fallout can. Especially when Chris Taylor is on the development team.

I'd rather developers concentrate on a single player experience, rather than add a useless feature so a bunch of teenagers can scream the word "[censored]" into each-others ears every 2.5 seconds.

While there are some really constructive posts in here, it's also fuzzy in parts.

If you wish to talk about multiplayer in general, please do so http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=976152 (which FalloutChris linked to at the beginning). That thread is specifically for non-MMO multiplayer, so if someone wants to make a new thread just about MMOs/V13 that's fine. While the OP is about MMOs some of this discussion doesn't really apply, and some things don't deal with multiplayer at all.

It's fine to discuss MMOs here, and if you don't like them just leave the thread alone please. A thread about MMOs shouldn't involve extraneous stuff like console constructions sets, etc.
