Dark Skies
Introduction
The Second Battle of Hoover Dam did not go well for Caesar's Legion. Much to Caesar's dismay, the Courier, known as Billy Gray, had sided with the North California Republic. Also, as if to further anger Caesar, Gray convinced the Boomers and the Great Khans to aid the NCR, telling them that Caesar's Legion would just turn on them and exterminate both groups. Caesar, not being one to back down, ordered Legate Lanius and his men to make one last assault on the Dam before the NCR could regroup with their allies.
Hundreds of Caesar's men stormed into the Dam, but Gray and the NCR were ready. Although the Legion had the advantage of numbers, Gray and the NCR knew the ins and outs of the Dam. The Courier led a squad around the back of the assaulting Legionaries and opened fire. The Legion's numbers swiftly diminished and, when the Legate knew were beaten, the remaining soldiers and Lanius retreated back to the Fort. Caesar executed Lanius for cowardice by simply putting a bullet in his head. His body was then strung up on a cross just outside the Fort as a warning for what would happen if you showed any sign of cowardice.
As soon as Gray and the NCR heard about the Legate's death, they wanted to finish off Caesar's Legion. The Boomers bombed the Fort continuously whilst the Great Khans and the NCR attacked Cottonwood Cove, cutting off the Fort's supplies. A week into the bombardments of the Fort, over three quarters of Caesar's soldiers were dead. Caesar himself was killed during the bombings. The survivors fled to Arizona, defeated. The New California Republic celebrated their well-earned victory by partying in Camp McCarran and naming Billy Gray as their hero.
In the following months, the NCR obliterated the Fiends, the Powder Gangers and several bands of Raiders. They civilized a few colonies situated around the Mojave Wasteland and became the sole guardians of New Vegas, backed up by Mr. House's Securitrons. They also became friendly with the Kings of Freeside, as long as the NCR helped to deal with any thugs and criminals. The Followers of the Apocalypse in the Mormon Fort had been convinced by Billy Gray to help citizens of Freeside by offering them medical support. The Omertas, White Gloves and Chairmen became law-abiding and all crime in New Vegas stopped.
This was short-lived though. Rumours began to spread across the Mojave about a group of NCR soldiers gone missing after reporting sights of Legionaries. Upon further investigation by Billy Gray, it revealed that they had been sent to see if the Legion were still active. The soldiers had gone about as far as Dayglow before going missing. This worried General Oliver since Dayglow was a few hours away from Shady Sands, the NCR capital. He assembled a second team, Billy Gray included, to find this missing team.
Billy thought about the possible riches like caps, weapons, armour. But he was also worried about what was waiting for him. Mutated creatures or crazed madmen that killed every person they came across. The south could be dangerous and desolate or just a sprawling metropolitan that the missing team had gotten too immersed in to leave and come home. Either way, Billy was going.
What will be waiting in the South? Only one way to find out...
