Why do the faces look horrible?

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 4:36 pm

In Morrowind the graphics may have not been that great, but the faces still looked good. They have good detail for them. But Oblivion on the other hand which has better graphics. The faces...well they look like the got puked out. (I'm not trying to sound like a dike, but this is really the best way for me to describe them.)

The faces look fine to me. I really can't understand if people like you make these posts out of trolling or are really serious. Morrowind faces, imo, are worse than Oblivion's but that's normal because of the graphics engine.

When I create a character, while admittedly, I take about an hour to create the face, I can make it look how I envisioned it.

Those are not the faces problem. It's the meshes and color problems. And still how can you say that http://images.wikia.com/oblivion/images/0/0a/TypicalDunmer.jpg looks worse than http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2002/pc/featurepreviews/morrowind/morrowind_screen005.jpg. The graphics can't even compare.

It is strange to me that you feel that way.

I started with Oblivion, and then tried Morrowind (and really liked it).

But I thought one of the most disgusting parts of Morrowind was the faces. They looked insanely bad. One of the first mods I got for Morrowind was a face replacer. Those faces were so hideous in Morrowind I question how people could play the game without mods.

I think the Oblivion faces can be very beautiful.

The only real problem is that the heads are too large in proportion to the bodies (in Oblivion). That gives them a slightly cartoonish look. But other than that they can look pretty good. And note that every NPC or PC is supposed to be beautiful, just as in real life. But there are some good looking NPCs. And lots of pictures of amazingly beautiful PCs have been posted in picture threads.

So I don't really agree with the OP.

Those are not the faces problem. It's the meshes and color problems. Excellent example. And that Morrowind NPC is, I think, one of the better looking ones.

The Oblivion one may have better graphics, but for the Morrowind one. The face itself still looks more like a face and the details stand out better.

I only have a problem with Orcish faces - can't identify their expression during persuasion minigame.

What details? The graphic engine is a bit too old to have decent details man.

-The eyebrows stand out more on her. For the Oblivion one hers are almost the same coolor as her skin.

-Her nose looks like it's the right size.

-Her philtrum is more noticeable.

-You can see the lines on her forehead.

-Their eyes look like they are both in the same spot. But the Oblivon ones looks like it's going up her head more.

A young dark elf, even other young character of any race isn't suposed to have huge lines on her forehead. And i have to admit the eyebrow part, you are right they are blue-ish. ALthough the eyes imo look more realistic in their positioning

The former is a Breton with blue skin and red eyes, the latter is a dark elf. Personally I preferred the Morrowind faces, because there was at least one face for each race I liked. Making a face I like for Oblivion is a lot trickier than it should be. Damn those sliders.

They are the right size and in the right spot. But they are a little too slanted up http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hrh_rHFgAC0/TvNI64GdNKI/AAAAAAAABxY/BIpQkErFuLI/s1600/Free+human+face+reference+image+front.jpg But that could just be a feature to their race.

Breton's don't have blue skin. They are both dark elves. Notice the red eyes.

He means they look exactly like a breton but... "with blue skin and red eyes". Not that bretons have blue skin and red eyes.

I actually prefer the Morrowind Dunmer face here.It looks more like an elf.Neither one of them are perfect, but to me,the features of each race was more distinct in Morrowind than they are in Oblivion. In Oblivion they all kind of look the same no matter what race you choose. They also look more cartoonish in Oblivion like Savlian said.
