Just started Shadow Rangers Redux

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 9:34 pm

Ok. So, I uninstalled my old Shadow Rangers mod, started a new game, selected the ranger class, got a note to visit the rangers camp and finally talked to the ranger master. He gave me a couple of daggers but I think thats it. He told me to go gain more experience like in the original mod, but I am wondering before I go any further if I am suppose to get the ability to summon my pet now or later, or am I missing something? I didn't see any details in the readme if this has been changed from the original mod so, if I don't get the spells till later I'd like to know or if this is a bug.

You'd probably be better off posting on the Nexus. I know the old version didn't give out spells and pets until you actually joined the order, so it's likely that's still the case.

Sorry manaseed, would have responded sooner but ive been at a friends house since yesterday at a party.

Like he said would have been better posting on the mod page, but ill answer it anyway because im nice.

You get different pets at different levels, also you get one new skill, spell or ability every level after you talk to the Shadow Master for the first time.

You get the wolf at level 8, (Next stage of the quest if you wondered starts at level 10) panther at level 11, (Last stage of the quest starts when you get to level 17) and you get the bear at level 18.

Its more of an incentive to keep leveling as every level until 25 (Possibly soon 30 but im having trouble thinking up new spells)

Any more questions feel free to ask in this thread, ill make sure to answer them :)

Sorry about that. It didn't even cross my mind to look up the mods homepage. Thanks for breaking that down for me Tooplex. I started playing and it took me forever to get to lvl 2 but I finally learned Calm Animals spell. Being a ranger or archer isn't easy so I decided to add a perk of my own coupled with Shadow Rangers Redux. ( by the way, I decided not to install Thieves Arsenal or Extinguish the Lights mods.) Close combat was a lot of running away trying to pick a creature or bandit off with my arrows with out being killed. So, I made a dagger that paralysis and burdens my foe for 5 seconds but does very little if any damage at all. This gives me time to switch back to my bow and get some space bewteen myself and what I'm fighting. And by that time Vilja has joined the fight and has full aggro using her mace and shield so I just stand back at a distance and fire arrows like crazy till what ever we are fighting is dead.

I would recommend some stealth as that what the shadow ranger specialises at. You should have been given a spell after you started the quest btw, called Shadows Aid. Just as a starter spell for level 1s.

I think using creature intensity with shadow ranger redux is breaking the experience from the way it should be. Shadow aid calms up to lvl 2, but I'm facing some pretty tough foes like ogres. I think what I'll do is deactivate creature intensity so I'm facing foes more my level and Shadows Aid will actually work on them. I quess I'll get rid of the dagger of paralysis I made too since the Shadows Aid spell should replace it. Thanks for the advice. Also, I sneak every where. Getting my sneak skill is already on my priority list. I also got to reading about chameleon and invisibility and realized with alchemy and the moonshadow birth sign I could have some pretty good thief skills as a ranger.

Your right! Crap I can't believe I said that. lol. I was thinking of soothing touch, but it doesn't work very well. Anyway, I deactivated creature intensity so I should be able to play using those spells with no problem now.
