In what order should I play the game ?

Post » Sun Jan 24, 2010 7:42 am

Hello :)

I've buyed a long time ago, Oblivion with addons.
I've never played it to the end, till I was looking for a game, like Fallout.
This time, I've downloaded some walkthroughs and now I'm fully in the game.
So far, it's just super great and I love it.

And maybe finally in the futur, I should also be able to finish the game of: Morrowind.
Seems I need a walkthrough for it too, to finish all quests, included the main quest.
In Morrowind, I was always stuck somewhere, without a walkthrough of the Main Quest.

My question of Oblivion now is:

In what order, should I finish the Main quests ?

1) Should I first finish the main story and then afterwards: Knights of the Nine and then: Shivering Isles ?
2) Or should I wait to finish the main story, till I have first finished: Knights of the Nine and then: Shivering Isles ?
3) Or must it all be finished in another order ? Please tell me.

Jason ;)

Play the game in any order you like, that is the greatest thing about all TES games. It is up to you what you do what you don't do. There is no right or wrong way to play the game at all.
I would not rely on a guide to dictate how and in what order you should play the game, a guide may be useful to help get past parts of the game you get really stuck on but if you use it for everything the game loses some of the fun.
An alternative to a guide/walkthrough is the oblivion wiki, and of course this forum.

Hope that helps a bit :)

I play with multiple characters in mind...

So normally I don't do the Main Quest beyond getting some gates to open. Currently my archer is a part of the mages guild, but only up to a certain point, she'd rather remain a student than the head of a guild. And somehow, somewhere she picked up a murder, when Faustina glitched and didn't attack straight away, and when I cut her down it was murder.... So she's a member of the Dark Brotherhood, but only to a certain point, really more for the supply of enchanted arrows every three days rather than anything else.

But this DB membership is a good segueway to visit the SI, but not to do the MQ.... more alchemy and spell learning. Then perhaps repent, and do KOTN, but it really depends on my character, I have no idea of what decision will be made, until she makes it.

On a side note: everyone wants you to urgently do their part of the MQ, and you can do it urgently if you so choose, or you can take breaks and come back when you want a change of scenery.

Thanks for all the info.

My character first started with doing some sidequests and a few of the main quests.
Then I've started to finish all quests of the Fighters Guild.
After the Fighters Guild, I've finished all Mages Guild quests.
Then I've finished all quests of: The Arena
After the Arena, I've finished all: Thieves Guild quests
Then afterwards, I've finished all: Dark Brotherhood quests

After the: Dark Brotherhood quests, I've finished the Pilgrimage Quest,
to set my INFAMY back to Zero. All thanks to some guids.
So for me, they are indeed handy to have.

Now I'm ready to search for the parts of: The Crusader. When I have these, I guess I must fight one of the Gods ?

For the main story: I've stopped somewhere within the quest: Blood of the Daedra

So, I was confused ...
To finish first the main quest and then all the rest. Or wait with the main quest,
and first finish all addons ?

So far, I've readed the replies, It seems it doesn't matter what you do ?
You can still finish everything afterwards ?
Am I correct ?

Thanks, and it's a super great game !! I love it.
100's of hours of fun. Super.
The game of: Arcania is nothing, compaired to this.

the game is very open. if you want to roll play, as the world is being threaten, do the main quest because the world is going to end soon, when you are strong enough.

It's not about what is right or wrong, it's about what you want and what you feel is the best way for you. You can't ask that to anyone since people will probably have discovered their own way, and you should do that too.

My first character I did all of the Arena quests, and then all of the Fighter's Guild quests. Then, I finished the Main Quest. Then, after figuring out that you didn't need to be a certain level in certain skills to complete (like in Morrowind) I did the Mage's Guild. Then, KotN, then the Main Quest only of SI. I'm playing another character now, and doing things as I find them. Much more fun that way.

You should do Knight of the nine first, then the story, then the the shivering isles.

I think maybe it is better to do Knights of the Nine rather later than earlier, because once you done that you are suddenly such a goody two shoe that you keep on getting these warnings that you have not lived up to the high standards of the nine and your armor that you just achieved in that quest gets pulled off you and you stand naked.

I did the Nine before DB and then it was basically impossible to do DB without hassles.

BTW I loved the Knights of the Nine questline. Mixed feeling about Shivering Isles though.

Don't do any of them. Leave it all to later and just enjoy the dungeon-diving.

You figure that a knight who has been blessed by the Nine is going to go do the bidding of Sheogorath?

WIth a warrior character, I always start with the FIghter's Guild, and then do the Main Quest, followed by KOTN and then The Shivering Isles. I don't know why. It just seems to make the most sense to me. :)
