The Lich King of Miscarand never forgets!

So a few nights ago I was going steady on the main quest and went to the ruins Miscarcand to recover the giant varla stone.

After fighting, sneaking and repelling (mostly the latter) the hordes of the undead that infest the ruin, I made it to the final room and grabbed the giant varla stone.

Upon grabbing the trap is sprung and out comes the Lich King Miscarcand. For a moment I ponder battling the undead horror and his dread zombie minions but come to the conclusion I don't really have enough resources to kill them all. I opt for going stealth, stealing all the loot I can and high tailing back to Blades HQ to hand the stone over to Martin. I felt like I curb stomped that quest, getting alot of loot and using minimal resources while I was at.

So a few days later I'm completing the first part of the nirnroot quest. I walk into the tavern, Elsse the God Hater shows her true colors, we battle, she dies and I hand my nirnroot over to the alchemisit downstairs. First part of the quest done.

Strangely as I'm about to leave the tavern, a psychic guard walks in and says I'm a thief. I figure it is because I stole some of the nirnroots and agree to pay the modest 40 septum fine. I get the load screen as we travel to the Skingrad guard house.

When the loading screen is done, I find myself outside skingrad on the bridge of the west gate. And who do I find waiting for me? Oh yes, you guessed it, the Lich King of Miscarand and his zombie minions have returned to exact their vengance upon me!

I was stunned for a moment, finding it amazing that the Lich had followed me from the dark depths of Miscarcand all the way to Skingrad. Then I remembered I was fighting for my life and a battle royal between me, a skingrad guard and civilian vs. the lich and his minions ensued!

It was an epic and hilarious battle, with the zombies getting knocked off the bridge and me and my new found guard buddy ( the same one that arrested me no less) pelted the lich with arrows until he was killed. The best part is the guard forgot all about my bounty when the fight was over. :hubbahubba:

I just looked at the wiki and I guess this is a common bug for the quest. If you don't kill the lich king he will follow you around for eternity. I had always heard of creature endlessly hunting the PC, but never experienced it at this magnitude. So cool.

This is such a great quest bug, I hope they never fix it. It is moments like this that truly make Oblivion AMAZING!

Ha! That's a funny story, and well-told. Thanks for sharing. I have heard of some foes stalkers following you and appearing when you come out of jail. Sounds creeeeepy , but fun.

Yes, this has been reported before.

That Lich King is quite persistent !!

I might want t try that next time. Maybe not kill him and then go to Cloud Rule Temple. So Martin, Jauffre, you really want that stone so bad, you kill the Lich King. Time for you do do some of the dirty work for a change ;)

I have experienced a similar bug involving the Fighters Guild members who fight alongside you against the goblins in one of the FG quests. It also happened when a guard accused me of thieving, I paid the fine and we went to the castle (it was in Bruma). When I appeared outside the castle, the FG members were there (two of them, the high elf had died in the mine). Known bug. But I did not know about the Lich King bug. Cool. :)

Sounds cool I want to try it that was always one of my favorite fights. Your story reminds me of when I first got attacked by the dark brotherhood in Morrowind

Nothing is more tiresome than a will-o-the-wisp.Once they start to chase you, they arent going to stop until youre dead(if you have a slow char, like me),and when you finally think you have escaped, one appears in front of you and starts draining your life away. When that happens, console is very tempted to kill it.

The exact same thing happened to me when I was using a stealth-oriented character. :P
