Hello everyone, this is my first post here. What I'm asking is really three questions, In the Fallout universe (about the time of New Vegas) what do you think the population is of:

The whole former United States?
The NCR?
The Legion?

I remember hearing somewhere that the NCR's population is about 700,000, but I'm not sure how close this is to being correct.

Indeed the ncr has a population of 700 000 as seen here http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/NCR but the only number we get is 40 years before the events of new vegas and so probably very off by now.

I can't find any numbers on the legions population :sadvaultboy:

I'm guessing the Legion's population is around 50 000 - 100 000.

I would guess they have way more then that. Remember, they have as much land as the ncr if not more.

More,they have all of Arizona,holdings in Utah,and i believe they also hold parts of New Mexico and Mexico.

Yeah, but before the Legion they were in much worse condition than California.

In 2241, the NCR's population was 700,000. It might have been over a million by 2281. The Greater Core Region was a few million. The Legion was supposed to number in the hundreds of thousands.

WageslaveZ is right the population of NCR was 700,000 in 2241, they had yet to take control of Northern California. NCR by the time of New Vegas controls all of California and into Baha Mexico. Include better living conditions that NCR has as well a 40 years plus. NCR's population could be close to 3 maybe 4 million by now.

Population of America before the great war was 400 million.

Considering NCR is a special case, I'm thinking it might be around 25 million. I don't know, would be interesting if an official number went out. I wonder what the natural increase is, because people die pretty much all of the time and births aren't widely talked about.

I doubt the Legion's able to support that many people. While they are a large group of organized tribals, they are still just tribals.

Yes they are just tribals, but a lot of tribals. And if they didn't number in even a million they wouldn't be able to wage war against the ncr. :slap:

In the intro of New Vegas they mention that the Legion is made up of 86 different tribes. This is the only evidence of how large they might be, but we still don't know how large a tribe might be. Although in terms of numbers I think that the Legion could gain territory and people much easier. The NCR is somewhat backed up against the Pacific, while the Legion has a whole continent to spread into.

True because of the ocean NCR can only expand North, South and East. We do have mention of Slave from New Mexico so Legion are there. Legion control all of Arizona, parts of Utah, New Mexico and Colorado. NCR is expanding into Baja Mexico and have a foot hold in Northern Arizona. They could be in Oregon by now. FO2 has locations there.

Caesar seems bent on taking over NCR so most of his forces would be focused in going West. NCR has had plans to keep going east but the Legion are in the way.

Legions population could be at least a million. With alot of slaves and the early years of Caesar being a Follower, the Legion could have some very large farming which can sustain a large population. Using farming techniques such as Crop rotation and maybe animal husbandry. Seeing how they treat women, I am sure Caeser as a soldier breeding program going.

This. With all of that land, it shouldn't be too hard for Caesar to support a population of a million.

NCR's population is somewhere around one million at the moment, I think. Legion could win them with much less population, cause it is basically what the name suggests, an army. They only have a small civilian population, unlike NCR.

I belive ncr have a bigger population, Any sources or are you guessing?
And ofcourse I didn't take in to consideration that almost every able man in the legion is a soldier :sadvaultboy:
