I think that they should make the next game multi-player.
This game is already an amazing game in itself, but how much better would it get if you could play with your friends?
I think it would be a perfect 10 then! Online or on the same screen would be the best!
How many of us already spend countless hours, days lost and swept away by this game consuming us? With endless possibilites already, there would be even more new and exciting ways being able to play with your friends!
The game mechanics can't be adapted for multiplayer without completely destroying what we think of as "Fallout." So I bring you...7 Problems with making Fallout a Multiplayer Game.
1. V.A.T.S.
Can you imagine how cheap that would be in PvP? Heck, can you imagine how cheap that would be in any team based hunting? What makes it even worse is that it would be impossible to implement as any time somebody uses V.A.T.S, both players have to freeze and targeting the right person amongst 8000 people would be painful for both the user and the victim. Not to mention the victim can just run into the crowd.
2. NPC Talking
Although it could be used in a Runescape or WOW styled text, the dialogue would go slower and be more painful to read. Not that big of a problem as it is very easy to make text appear over the person's head.
3. Time Stop
Whenever you open up your Pip-Boy, the game stops. That's ESSENTIAL to ANY RPG as if that doesn't happen, while you're getting ready for an assault on a Deathclaw nest, you can get killed. Now you can always keep the inventory menu out at all times and just select it on a HUD or something but that just destroys another part of the Fallout Experience.
4. Leveling Up & Character Creation
In many MMO games, each player usually starts out the same. Some games, you are allowed to specialize your character either by using a class or distributing points. Now Fallout would have that and character creation would be no problem. But when you're leveling up and getting perks, many Fallout veterans would be gods by the level cap and the newbies who have JUST started playing Fallout would have no choice but to restart their character as they would have to claw their way to a mediocre level .
5. Respawning
In virtually ALL successful MMO games, enemies respawn. That's a fact. In Runescape, if you kill a dragon and move on to the next dragon, the dragon you just killed would spawn back. That's to prevent entire dungeons to be cleared out in one training session and having the player move on to another dungeon. Right now, there's no problem as there's only one person to clear out the dungeons. But with the 3 day respawn system...you can imagine on busy servers, all dungeons in the entire game would be completely cleared out.
6. Split Screen/Co-op Mode
Now the problem with this is that since it's Co-op with 2-4 players or around that size trying to complete quests TOGETHER, nothing in the game except the players would change. Meaning if one person talks to an NPC...the remaining 3 players would just wait around doing nothing. Or if one person goes into V.A.T.S which would happen A LOT, same deal. Not to mention cutsceens would be a little tricky since the NPCs must be scripted to ignore the other players and go only for the host.
7. Money
This is HUGE if Bethesda goes for an MMO. As of November 8th, Bethesda shipped 5 MILLION copies of Fallout New Vegas. Now let's say that all of those people bought it for 50 bucks...about the standard price for a retail store blockbuster game. That's 250 MILLION DOLLARS. That may seem a lot but that's 5 million people playing the game. Let's say each server can hold about 2,000 people, again, somewhat standard. That's 2500 servers Bethesda needs to maintain, hire moderators for, update, etc. Yeah...no.
There are other reasons but these are the 7 reasons I think Multiplayer is going to fail. Now if Bethesda comes up with a way of making a Fallout Multiplayer that doesn't svck, I will of course buy the game and applaud Bethesda for making that game. By the way, the reason I didn't add mods to the list was because I assume multiplayer will not have a modding feature enabled.
