It's a perfectly feasible scenario.

Use it for one kind of decision and at a risk of failing at their job/fan pressure/laziness/nervousness referees could easily resort to using it for more frivolous decisions. Fans will constantly harp on about a replay for a foul that would have resulted in a red card decision, it becomes to difficult to decide when and when not to use it in a manner that it will actually enhance the game.

To be fair you're grossly over simplifying it. Hell, if it were as easy as everyone makes it sound then FIFA would do it. If they believed it would make the game fairer and it could easily be done they they'd do it. They're not actually a sinister force of death and evil.

That's just it though, it is as easy as it sounds.

If I can make the call sitting on my couch before the guy gets done celebrating, you can't say FIFA shouldn't be able to do the same thing in a timely manner.

Nah, I'm all for making the game fairer. I just think you really have to draw the line as to where it can be used with this technology and even when you do, people will still be pissed off that you didn't use a video replay to look at something that they feel the referee got wrong.

True, but to me it seems - and I admit to being a bit of an outsider to the game - that the line could be drawn just a little further forward, where these kinds of blatant errors are no longer an issue.

I agree with that, that there has to be a line where replay stops. People are always going to be pissed, but I don't think there are really millions of fans who want replay to look at everything going on during a soccer match.

Yeh I agree with that for sure.

I can just see how, over time, the pressure for it to be used more excessively will grow. People will always find something to be aggrieved about. Whether it be the lack of replay technology now, or the decision they felt worthy of the video referee in the future.

If we can get the balance right, it'll be good.

EDIT: You'd be surprised how petty and resentful most football fans are .

When it's about something subjective like a foul, that's one thing - I think for that you still need the referee on the pitch to make that decision, as always. But when it's something concrete and binary like a goal, that's quite another - for that you should have methods available which are infallible. Mistakes like this belong to two decades ago.
