That's right cowboys, my PS3 just died today. I was trying to do other missions besides the main story ones(since I can't), was running fine until I had the audacity to enter Vault 22. Hard freeze, tried to turn it off by holding down the power button, nothing. Waited 5 minutes and tried again, nothing. Turned off my system with the switch in the back. Turned it back on, nothing. So now they didn't just get 60 dollars, they got hundreds. I think I'm gonna go cry now.

Actually a game can kill your console. I had my playstation for a about a year than I had a hard freeze with a madden game. Powered it down and when I started it back up it did everything just fine except read any kind of disc. Playstations exact explanation was due to the powering down during mid-operation caused the laser reader to malfunction. So if you have several hard freezes often as people are having with new vegas it can very well kill your console. I wont even play my ps3 during a thunderstorm on the off chance i might lose power and it might kill my system

That's got nothing to do with the game. The laser reader should be capable of handeling a power down anytime. Your ps3 hardware is to blame. Not the game

The PS3 should handle the power down. True. But why was the PS3 powered down in the first place? Because the game froze the PS3. How do you fix this? Power down the PS3. So, indirectly, the game is to blame.

But still the hardware should be able to handle it. So you can't really blame new vegas.

Just face it

I too had a YLOD whilst playing New Vegas, but it wasn't caused directly by the game...so you can hardly blame Obsidian.

Check out some guides on Youtube and they'll show you how to fix the problem if you're up to it, although it's only a temporary fix as this is the second time its YLOD'ed.

I've had over 50 crashes, I turned off my PS3 using the rear switch and I've had it since the launch. 4-5 years 60 gig model. And you're saying ONE crash busted your 1 year old machine? Kinda hard to believe.
Either I'm the luckiest bastard alive, or you're unlucky. My PS3 is working perfectly since the beginning.

I wouldn't say one crash killed it, I lost track around 20 or 30.

My ps3 is les than a year old, I bought new vegas and have never ever had any problems with my ps3 untill a few hard crashes, it was frozen and I went to eject the game and nothing happened. It made noise but no cd came out. I had to hit the button and nudge the cd with a knife to get it to catch, I kept messing with it using another cd putting it in and taking it out and it started back working fine. bad coding on a windows program can mess your computer up, im sure it could mess the ps3 up.

I'm not sure how or why my disk drive was malfunctioning but it never happened till the hard locks of new vegas.. just sayin.. less than a year old... no problems before..

Stress might cause the hardware to break. A defective software might stress the hardware to breaking point so yes...indirectly, software can break the PS3...of course it was just a coincidence that your PS3 broke after an issue with New Vegas so at the same time is not wise to point the finger at the specific software. The first time my PS3 broke, for example, was after installing Resistance 2.

Anyway...it is always a good idea though, to not use a software that constantly freezes the hardware since the longevity of the console will be negatively affected.
