I would prefer to see bethesda implement double forward tap to running so we don t have to waste a key just for it.
From a mouse/keyboard perspective, I'd rather see them use shift for the gas, backwards for the brake, and caps lock for cruise control. So to speak.
While going forward, tapping shift should pick up your pace, holding it should maintain your pace, and releasing it should cause you to gradually slow your pace. Caps lock would cause you to always try to move the pace you had when you hit it, but you would still have to accelerate normally to do so -- that is, if you hit Caps Lock while running and then stop, when you hit forward you will walk into a jog into a run and then keep running.
Releasing shift while holding forward would result in a gradual slowdown (about four or five times slower than acceleration using shift). Releasing
forward would cause you to slow your pace rapidly (at about the same speed as you accelerate by tapping shift) and eventually come to a stop, while hitting backward should cause you to try to stop as quickly as humanly possible (which would usually put you into a slide, if you can visualize a sprinter suddenly coming up on a cliff and trying to come to a dead stop ASAP).
They should at least have Walking, Jogging, Running, and Sprinting paces, though speed levels in between would be great if the animations are flexible enough. However, they should also get more realistic in terms of backpedaling and strafing (you don't sprint sideways or backwards, after all, and tire much more rapidly if you try to strafe or backpedal above walking speed). You still do dodges, of course.
