Is it dark in here?

Okay i have a small companion issue - i want my companion to carry a torch for me - but if I enter a cave, ruin or daedric shrine how do i get them to automatically pop open their torch - is there someway of knowing when the ambient light is below a certain level?

I also want to tell them in dialogue to put away the torch - only for once i move a certain distance away form them to pop it out again

But after reading through the MWSFD and looking at various companion scripts I couldn't find anything about lighting the way

I also can't see how the Guards torch works apart from the fact it is an infinite light how does it know when to pop out?

just use the adoring fan (if you can stand him)

or you could get a essential character and put a hood of fire damage on him :flamethrower: :cryvaultboy: human torch :disguise:

As far as I know, NPCs with torches will equip them at night. I don't know if they will ever equip torches in interior cells but certainly in exteriors. And any torch is infinite when used by an NPC.

Making them manually equip / unequip the torch shouldn't be too hard (i.e. through dialogue / scripts) - just use AddItem and Equip when you want them to use the torch, and RemoveItem if you want them to unequip it (that's one way, anyway). However, there is no "get light level" function :(
