Paint horse advantages

I'd like to make a comment about it- but I can't figure out how to do that nifty spoiler thing.

You do;

(spoiler) Whatever You Want To Say (/spoiler)

But replace the '(' and ')' with '[' and ']'

Spoiler
like this!

It has always seemed to me that Paint Horse have better acrobatics score or something because they can climb inclines better than the others, but that might be my imagination, someone can probably look that up in the CS....

I've been riding Prior Maborel's paint horse throughout the life of my current char. I experimented with various horses in previous playthroughs, as well as not using a horse at all. This time through, I planned to just pick up the prior's horse for faster travel early on, but he ended up living long enough that I started to grow attached to him. In fact, I've gotten so used to having him around that I've restarted from previous saves on the few occasions he's died. :( I don't even actually ride him anymore for the most part, but I keep him around as a pet/companion. My explanation was quiet horrible, I read it and didn't understand myself. :P

It made sense to me. :)

Well, I understand the OP (Renee) perfectly. The slower running speed makes the Paint easier to control while running, especially through rough or obstacled terrain. Thank you, Renee for explaining a bit about how the running controls are different on your platform than the PC controls I am used to - I learned something.

I continue to maintain that horses are mostly about RP. Therefore, it is most appropriate to consider such things as the appearance and image of the different horses. Buffy is all about black horses, simply because of the strong impression made upon her the first time she saw the awesome power and speed of the mounts used by the young Breton women that ride for the Black Horse Courier. Buffy has since been embraced by those riders as a 'Sister of the Black Horse', a title she cherishes. :wavey:

If all a player really wants is to go fast, then forget horses and consider fast travel or fortifying your speed to 'oh wow' .

Yea I agree. Horses are mostly just for roleplay. I don't like adding speed to any of my characters at all. I think my fastest character so far had a speed of 50. Even that feels a bit unrealistic to me! So that's why horses are so important. I just wish they were a tad smarter sometimes...

:) Ah, yes. Horses and roleplay. . .

Through eyes half closed against the wind, the pink blur that appeared at the fringe of my range was large, and streaking towards us. Sensing my thoughts, Superian quickly pulled us back from our intoxicating thunder and speed. Before another heartbeat could pass, the Black Horse Courier stallion abruptly drew up beside us. The mist of heavy breathing from the two horses swirled together producing an eerie fog in the cool morning air.

"Hail, Buffy!" The owner of the soft Breton accent continued, "How fares my sister of the black horse?" As she dragged a sleeve across her face to remove some dust, I could recognize her. The stallion, despite being tired, was agitated. He stretched his neck towards Superian, snorted and blew through flaring nostrils at her.

"Good morning Surani. What news do you carry?" Superian was stamping her front hooves upon the road. I did not try to dissuade her as she pranced sideways, several paces away from the stallion and turned her head away from him.

"Well, the current edition of the paper has several articles in it about the tournament." The Breton backed her mount away slightly, and worked to settle him with limited success. "Things in Leyawiin are quiet as they normally are when the Countess is visiting her mother in Chorrol. Oh, I have a package for you, Buffy." A small hand slipped behind her into a saddlebag, produced a box about the size of a fist and lightly tossed it to me. "Well, pleasant journeys. We must be off now." The black horse snorted again and sprang forward, quickly opening the distance between us as trailing hoofbeats disappeared north towards Bravil.

The main problem I have with horses is that they're too fast for the game engine (and I play most of the time on the PS3!). Whenever I'm riding one of them at full speed, I have to put up with various amounts of slowdowns and hiccups and pauses to load the scenario... sometimes I wonder if my PS3 version of the game isn't somehow defective... :(

I see your point, but having a horse is too tiresome for me. I don't have the time to make sure my horse doesn't fall off of the mountain while I am filling my vault with treasures.

But I see your point.

Mmhmm. I get little hiccups and slowdowns every now and then while riding horses. They're not as bad as they sound in your game, though; they rarely detract from gameplay because at this point I expect them.

What version of PS3 have you got? Mine holds 80gb I think.

Deep! Since you got mods, is it possible to get more than.....say....3 different copies of the Black Horse Courier? In the Vanilla game, that's all they seem to have printed: Assasination, the one about the Grey Fox, and another one I'm forgetting at the moment. And the stupid crier always says: EVERYBODY NEEDS A COPY OF THE BLACK HORSE COURIER!!! so I go to get one from him, and he says

"Sorry. Only one copy of the Black Horse Courier per customer". :(

The Unicorn is a handful but if you learn it's idiosyncrasies and are willing to live with them, It makes a tough mount with a pretty good fighting capability.

Thanks. We only run a small number of mods, and do not use any that affect the BHC. A mod called http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27029 looks like it might do that however. :icecream:

I really haven't found any use at all for horses in Oblivion. They just seem like useless eye candy. If I could use them as a pack horse like dungeon siege had I'd like them.
I think I'm going to make an orc next time I play and roleplay that he has an uncontrollable urge eat horses.

Technically you can use Shadowmere as a pack horse:

Spoiler
all you have to do is attack Shadowmere until it goes unconscious and then "loot" the body and you can place any item you wish inside, it can be very helpful if you have a lot of loot
