leveling

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 12:06 am

A while back I played morrowind and about half way through the game my xbox broke. Butjust recently I fixed it and started a new game on morrowind and i rushed through the game to get where I was before when I first played the game,so I beat the main quest at level 8

But now I am trying to go through the expansions, but I dont think I am a high enough level to do them. So I guess my question is, what is the fastest way to level up?

Find alot of high priced items, sell them to creeper, and use the cash to power level.

Don't waste time improving miscellaneous skills. If you plan your leveling well, you can still end up with 100's in all of your attributes by the time you max levels. Just pick the ten skills you want to use as your Major/Minor skills and only train those skills. You'll level up twice as fast.

Power leveling is fastest, but not necessarily the best thing to do. Unless you are using several trainers, or one with all the skills you need, you will find that on the attribute increasing screen, one attribute will have X4 while the rest will only be able to increased by 1. For example, say I went to a trainer and trained my long sword 10 times, when I level up, I can increase my strength by 4, but can only increase the other attributes by 1. If you have time, go and kill stuff, making use of your major and minor skills.

By the way, I believe major skills increase faster.

by the time you max levels.

There is no level max.
Don't you dare compare this game to every other piece of garbage out there.

Yes actually, there is. Once your major and minor skills all hit 100, you can no longer level.

No, actually there isn't.
This isn't Fallout or Dragon Age. You're not at a dead end.
One way to keep getting levels should only be mentioned in the Cheats section.
Another way is to get arrested to reduce some skill points, and go from there.
But I guess you'd know, right?

Jeff, chill out! The manual and the UESP mention that there is a max to levels...unless you cheat or use an exploit. I never use such things, so I don't consider them in my comments. I've never played those games you mentioned, so I wasn't comparing.

tominook1-If you improve a skill 10 points, then you can increase its attribute by 5 points not 4. There is a glitch when you get to 95 that sometimes prevents you going up 5 to 100, otherwise it is always 5.

Most basic characters start with an average of 40 in each attribute. There are 8 attributes, so they need 60 x 8 or 480 points to max attributes. If you get 10 points in one Major/Minor skill and immediately level up that is 5+1+1 or 7 points to add to your attributes (or if you improved two skills 5 times that would be 3+3+1 and still add 7 to your attributes). Most characters can impove an additional 70 levels (unless you cheat), so 7 x 70 is 490 points to your attributes. Thus you can max your attributes without wasting time on your miscellaneous skills and it really is the fastest thing to do, whether or not one finds this to be the best thing to do. You just have to know what you are doing.

Also, let's say one chooses to level both miscellaneous and Major/Minor skills so as to quickly max their character's attributes. They improve three skills per level for 32 levels, one Major/Minor and two miscellaneous by 10 points each (a total of 96 skill improvements with an increase of 15 x 32 or 480 to their attributes). They get to 33rd level and have 100's in all attributes. However, in three quarters of the game time, my character improves only one Major/Minor skill per level for 70 levels (a total of 70 skill improvements). My character also has 100's in all attributes, but has an additional 380 health points from the extra 38 levels too.
Sounds like the best thing to do to me.

Since the game isn't as heavily levelled as some, and isn't "scaled" to your level, your actual level isn't all that important. Just take your time and enjoy the world that's being presented to you. "Beating" the game isn't the most important thing (and it's really not that difficult after some point, no matter how un-optimized your charactr is), so maxing your Attribute gains is just a way of rushing the process and missing out on the best parts of the game: the "sweet spot" between levels 5 and 20 where you're powerful enough to go anywhere, but there are still things that can challenge you.

If you want "serious" power-levelling advice, ask this in Hints, Tips, and Spoilers.

Well, I find it sweet to rise to the top of the House Hlaalu, the Mage's and Fighter's Guilds and the Imperial Cult and Legion, because I like doing the quests. I choose my skills well and when I'm done improving them to meet the necessary requirements then my character is about 37th level as well. I'm quite serious about the advice I posted on fast leveling.

The mechanics of the game dictate a max level. What you suggested is cheating and exploiting, which aren't part of the game's rules. Cheating and exploiting could be done on any game with a max level.

Yeah.. as Inferne says, there is a max level. It's just possible to cheat and get around it. It's possible to cheat and get around almost anything in Morrowind.

GS, why don't you chill out yourself.

You're getting more worked up about things than anyone else in this topic.

some people consider some things in this game as cheating simply because they think it's that way.

Ex. The Alchemy exploit of fortifying intelligence. some see this as a cheat, some do not. it's all a matter of perspective.

Until you posted.

It's hard to stay frosty when an honest question is posted and people post dishonest answers. Morrowind is a terrific game if you actually play it. Like it or not, there is a max level.

I answered his questiojn simple and precise, it's up to him whether or not he want to accept it.

Just because you choose to do things a certain way doesn't mean everyone has to do them your way.

Look at some of the mods that rework the skills to a more appropriate levels so they are feasable. Let me guess you consider that dishonest, right ?

If you're a purist then say so, but don't expect everyone to have to live up to your one sided view of things.

Well, technically, I answered his post, as what I said is the fastest way to level up. When the integrity of my post was questioned, I clarified my answer. It's what people do in a forum, we discuss things. I'm not the only one telling you that there are max levels. Are you describing all of us as "Purists"? Have you read the forum rules about banning?

yes i have read the rules and it is not your place to be telling me jack. that is for the mods and admin.

And what i said to him about ways to get the leveling done is just as relevant even though I may not have gone into such detail as you did.

I'm not going to get into a flame war with you over something like this.
