After completing the Debt Collector mission where you kill McCaffery and bring back his hat to the Atomic Wrangler the game freezes with a black screen every time I try to get back into the strip... I have seen this on a gamefaqs blog where it has happened to multiple people and supposedly this newest "patch" doesnt even address the issue. This is garbage and I am pissed off, is there any way to fix this?

I just killed him then went into Gamorrah. now every time I try to leave I get loading, then black screen with sound and a locked PS3

I put on mcaffery's hat and I was able to leave!

it seems to be a hat related issue

So what am i supposed to do run around looking for hats ?

A simular thing has been happening to me except ive completed the mission'Debt Collector' so i cannot get the hat back i don't think.

I can confirm that this works. This is the only issue I've had with the game thus far.

I had a black screen situation in a different place and nothing would change it except to reload my save and start the area again.. that seemed to get rid of the problem...

It started happening when I got to the area with all the search lights.. from that point on if I looked anywhere but straight down at the ground it would black screen...

Since it's happening in different places it just sounds like a graphics glitch of some kind (I'm glad I saved just before going in there....) otherwise I would have been stuck replaying a bunch of stuff..

This is exactly what happened to me last night, very frustrating. I had just given the hat to the twins and when I left the strip my companions didn't follow and appeared to be stuck on the strip, so i tried going back and that is where I got the black screen w/background noise after loading. Luckily I had another save although it was on the strip so when I would try to move, It would freeze/lockup. To get around this, as soon as I loaded I went into my pip-boy and fast traveled to another location. Now I am doing more side quests however I am unable to enter the strip without getting the dreaded black screen.

EXACTLY the same thing happens to me on the Limited Uk edition.

this is tedious but the only bug i have found....so can you get the hat back after you give it to the twins?

Same thing happened to me, very frustrating. I hope I have a save before I killed the guy. Reloading might be what I have to do. :/

Found this solution on the Fallout Wiki and it worked for me: buy the Old Cowboy Hat from Mick at Mick & Ralph's in Freeside. Keep it in your inventory and you should be able to enter the Strip.

That sh@t killed my 110 HOUR normal file...
