Slow Learner

This should have been an early perk in Fallout 3. It would cater for those of us who spend a long time with this masterpiece. A long, long time. Reduce XP gain by half or more. Now, on my third playtrough, I′m on level 29, and haven′t even touched Mothership Zeta. I still got lots to do in Point Lookout and the Wasteland.

Cheers.

Why not just increase level cap than leveling slower, leveling and costumize your character is part of the fun imo.

Yeah. That is also a solution. Perhaps a better one :-) That would mean more perks to utilize.
Leveling is great fun, I just wish that it wasn′t so fast.

I use the rules in my sig for FO3. It extends game play... you are weak enough that you think twice, and sometimes three times, before engaging anything. However, I should note that I don't actually follow the main quest anymore as a quest, rather than as something that gives me new enemies every once in a while, so I'm not picking up extra XP all over the place. I also play on Hard for all DiD characters; so you should be able to get some mileage out of this style.

Interesting idea. It'd certainly increase the mileage you'd get out of the game. I love heading out into the wilderness in Morrowind and fighting weak enemies to increase my skills, because it's a must if you want to survive later on in the game. In Fallout it seems like it's pointless because you're going to level up quickly anyway and you're going to be OK in 95%+ of your fights, even at a low level. So yeah, I like that idea. It'd be a good addition to the game.

This is a very reasonable way of thinking and dealing with the turbo-leveling in F3. However - I′m not that good at harder settings. I usually play on normal difficulty and that′s quite enough. Perhaps it would be a good idea that the levelprogression speed is scaleable depending on the difficulty you choose.
Given the level cap at 30. Or there could be an option at the start of game, where you can choose between slow/normal/fast. Something for Fallout 4?

"3. Have fun/ Die a lot!" :-D good one :-)

If you are on PC, you can get Fallout Wanderers Edition. There is an option to customize leveling, experience and pacing. Also the ability to increase difficulty. You can also get mods to increase the level cap up to 100. I am currently playing at level 59.

True. On the other hand - I would be happy with levelcap 30. I don′t need all the perks. Fallout 3 is imo very replayable and the restriction of not having it all in every game you play is an incentive to start over. As you mentioned; the leveling is very fun. But it is on stereoids :-)

This sounds very good. I am going for a new PC this autumn and looking forward to buy all my Bethesda darlings all over again.
I′m currently on the Xbox.

I couldn′t agree more. Although I really enjoy the process of leveling up, it is just too fast. Another thing - It should be possible to postphone the choices you have to make. The level up screen has a habit of popping up at inconvenient moments. That fanfare has scared the [censored] out of me more than once :-) Dunwich building... I was seriously not in the mood for making choices in the midst of howling ghouls.

I find that 30-35 is just about the right level in New Vegas. This will allow you to max out four to five skills at most, so your character still retains some identity and isn't a super overpowered unstoppable killing machine.

In Fallout 3, I think level 20 is right due to the increased number of skill points. Increasing the level cap to 30 overpowers the player too much.

So I agree with the OP, slower XP levelling is better than just increasing the level cap. The problem is not that the cap is reached at all, its just that it happens way too early.

This is a very valid point to make. Thank You. It is all about balance and I really think Bethesda should consider this. People are different. We all make our own way in the Bethesda universe.

You can certainly play on Normal. My previous character played on Normal with all the rules, except she had an Endurance of 3.

Normal is good for me. The thing with Fallout 3 is that it seems so earnerst, It is a true effort and work. And it′s a game that doesn′t crash all the time. It is like a good wine :-)
