Buying, Installing, and playing Fallout 12 on a modern compu

Post » Sat Jun 23, 2012 5:18 am

I started this thread because I got the itch... I got it bad. I want to buy fallout 1 and 2 and install them on my computer. Seeing as the games are from the late 90's I was wondering if I COULD install it on a new computer, and where should I get the games? Someone please point me in the right direction.

Yes i can. No problems. And you should probably get them from Amazon or Ebay. I have both games and Windows 7 and they run with no problems whatsoever. Don't worry :)

So you actually bought the discs? or by download?

Yep. Interplay re-released Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics as the "Fallout Trilogy." Not sure if it's still selling, last I heard gamesas was planning to sue them for false advertising (since it doesn't contain FO3, and may make people unfamiliar with the series buy something they didn't want.)

http://www.gog.com/gamecard/fallout is probably the best place to get them, they put in the extra effort to ensure the game works on modern PCs, and the forums there can help with whatever issues there are left.

I bought them recently in a package that contains 1, 2, and tactics at Best Buy. Had to get new copies, because my old ones are scratched as hell.

I second this. I've not had issues with their release.

Any release will need to be patched with http://killap.net/ though.

And it's a neat story why too. :)

I bought both disc about a year ago. They work on my labtop, which is a Acer aspire (decent). I got it in 2010. I have windows 7, so they should work. Mine was a one time instalment, then I never really used the disc ever again.

That pack was called Fallout Trilogy since way before Fallout 3 came out so I think it was stupid of them to sue over that. It even showed what was in it on the front of the box.

Heck to some people(not me), calling what Bethesda made Fallout 3, was false advertising with the drastic change in gameplay.

OP: You could go to http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php and try some of the mods there that make things easier. Like the one for fallout 2 that has your companions loot bodies for you at the press of a button.

If there is no music, then it's either that the Music tracks (.ACM files) were not copied over from the disk, or that the location for them is not in the config file ~or both. Check the link that I posted above in post #12. The "Humongous Install" is the only way to go (now); there is little point to the others anymore.

Fallout 1&2 play music almost everywhere.

** Edit:
It's funny that it doesn't say it, but when the instructions say '(CDROM)', they do mean just the drive letter (and colon).
