Question for experienced Daggerfall mod usercreator

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 6:26 pm

I want to play through Daggerfall again.

I love the vanilla version (it's the only version I've ever played) and I wouldn't mind going through it yet again.

However, out of curiosity, I'm looking for mods that will improve my experience, nothing opinion based neccesarily (although they're welcome), but mostly just general improvements for enjoyment.

Examples
-New content
-Stabilty improvement
-Grahpics improvement

Anything else you could reccomend would be appreciated, I have plenty of time and I want to make sure I experience this game at it's fullest!

Thank you for reading.

There wasn't a construction set released with Daggerfall. Unless somebody went in and actually hacked the game (as in Doom), I don't think there are any mods for it.

Ah I'm sorry to hear that, perhaps I'll just give it a go in it's current state. No worries, I just didn't want to feel like I was missing out on anything ! Thanks for the response.

There are a few mods, but not many, and the sites that had them have in many cases shut down. Check the uesp wiki for the main ones, and google for more. I assume you got the dosbox version from uesp, so you know where that is. Multiple mods can be a problem, as files often need to be updated or replaced, and merging mods is not easy. If they don't overlap, you may be lucky.

I replaced a race with playable orcs, and there are mods with extra outfits, new quests, and even bug fixes!

there is a mod, or perhaps a new game all together called Daggerfall xl. it replaces the daggerfall engine with a new one. here's an article about the project: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/11/18/mods-and-ends-daggerfall-the-xl-engine/

There's a utility called DMPQuest I used some years ago for a now-on-hiatus daggerfall italian translation project - I used it to translate text in the .qrc files, but IIRC you could also modify the .qbn files (those with the data for monsters, items and dungeons for each quest) and create quests from scratch. As far as I know, there was a very detailed guide regarding the format of said files made by Donald Tipton.

Yeah, it's more like a new game, since it's a complete rewrite of the Daggerfall engine. The guy also plans to implement all the missing features once he's done with the main game - should he manage to do that, I'd be more than willing to build an altar in his honor in my garden and start worshipping him.

You can, alternatively, use the scalers in DOSbox to smooth out the textures and give the game a crisper yet slightly painted look. Makes the game a little easier on the eyes if you find the standard resolution and large pixels a tad jaggy.

Hi AJ18636. While Daggerfall doesn't enjoy the kind of mod support we've become accustomed to since Morrowind, there are some decent mods out there. These have all been accomplished through hacking Daggerfall's file formats and injecting/replacing content.

Mods

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Files - Link is direct to download page. Lots of mods, tools, and other information.
http://www.svatopluk.com/daggerfall/mods/ - Link is direct to mod page. Some good stuff here.

Tools

http://theelderscrolls.wiwiland.net/?title=Daggerfall_:_DaggerfallSetup_EN - Best way to setup Daggerfall. Includes DOSBox and many of the above mods in one simple installer.
http://slushpool.dfworkshop.net/ - Old-school modding tools, including Don Tipton's quest templates.
http://andux.svatopluk.com/ - Video export and more.
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Hacking_Guide - In depth information about Daggerfall's file formats.
http://www.dfworkshop.net/ - New exploring tools to view Daggerfall's images, 3D models, cities, and dungeons. An old tool can extract music and sound effects.

Engine Replacements

http://xlengine.com/ - Full engine replacement for several classic games, including Daggerfall. Aims to fully recreate the original Daggerfall play experience, and more.
http://www.ruinsofhilldeep.com/ - Partial engine replacement and total conversion. Aims to provide a new Daggerfall play experience, and tools to build your own.

I've probably forgotton something. Will add more later if I think of them.

I was looking for mods for this game. The mod that interests me is the deadra fall mod that lets you play as a deadra but I have been unsuccessful of getting it to work. So anybody know how to install it. I have the free version bethesda put out. Then I have 4-5 mod quest packs installed and those mods work fine

Thanks everyone! Going to check these out, I still have my original CD from way back in the day but if it gives me any problems I'll go snatch the digital version they released.

Too bad I'm not enjoying Skyrim, sad it has come to this.

The original homepage for the mod (like many other sites) is archived in the Wayback Machine project - http://web.archive.org/web/20021213100748/http://neuman.virtualave.net/daedrafall.html

There's some instructions there, and if you click the "see how this mod developed over time" link at the bottom of the page, it takes you to an archived version of the WIP thread from these very forums...!
