you know of mine small country? :o

on topic - wouldnt mind the snow, but imo your character NEEDS to at least boot deep and trudging, not just a white, flat dirt texture.
[snip]

If they did make large areas of snow and mountain top, but made the snow progressively deeper and walking through it progressively harder (while giving greater and greater stat penalties for activities done there) then they can effectively cordon off areas of the map for higher level players.

Imagine trudging up the side of a mountain, your vision slowly disappearing to the blizzards of snow, only able to see a few feet ahead of you and only able to progress at an extremely slow pace because of the deep snow when suddenly a mountain monster jumps out at you and all you can do is casually swing your sword for all the effort in the world. You would be terrified of that area, but would be constantly thinking about it (what is there, what am I missing out on). 20 levels later you think maybe you can bare it again, maybe you’re ready. You walk up the mountain again slowing almost every yard for the deep snow. But when you get there, find a temple and some amazing loot and an awesome book that tells of the ancient cult that once worshiped here and of the forgotten history of the area. That would be satisfying beyond words.

lol, I think I'm getting carried away, I doubt they will implement something like that. Oh well, one can dream

I don't know about diversity, but the buildings in the mural reminded me of Petra.

Black Marsh would have been nice but i don't think Beth has the technology to make very advanced water effects. Also, Black Marsh will need more creative and imaginative game design because the location is so alien even more than Morrowind was. I'm not surprise why Beth doesn't want to deal with this location at this moment. Skyrim is ok and I hope it has settlements from other races in there. But above all, I HOPE its huge. Oblivion was nice pictorially speaking but the size was a big let down. The island of Vvardenfell was bigger or at least the same size of Cyrodiil.

Infernal City lol

I'm pumped about Skyrim. Naked nords plz? : )

I do fear Skyrim being "north Cyrodiil", but I don't really believe a team of people devoted to making TES games is going to spends so many years to produce Solsthiem part two.

But I guarantee you, if it was Black Marsh, we would have the same threads with people fearing over "Is it going to be all swamp?" :)

No it wasn't. Cyrodiil was bigger.

You are absolutely right. And if it was Hammerfell they would fear that it would all be desert.

Nope, Morrowind was 3/4 the size of Oblivion. It just seemed bigger because of the lack of fast travel.

How does everyone else feel about the location of choice in The Elder Scrolls V?

I′m with the threadstarter on this one. Morrowind had mages living in mushrooms. What can beat that? My biggest fear is that everything will look like Solstheim, with snow, snow, tree, snow, snow, BEAR!, dead bear, snow... You get my point.

What are your expectations for the game world? (in terms of design, appearance, layout, so forth)

Not snow everywhere!

If you could change the location to another province, which would you have preferred or wished to see?

Since I always play as an altmer mage, Summerset Isles would be fun. Wizards, elves, exotic flora and fauna, crystals dotting the landscape, (mages living in mushrooms), goblin servants, magic, and all that lore, locations, characters and so forth.

their is going to be more then just snow. blizzards, falling snow, fog, many huge mountains, beautiful ice caves, frozen lakes, unique creatures, nord culture, and fine nord drinks, this was the province i have been waiting for since bloodmoon!

Initially I was disappointed by the decision to see Skyrim confirmed as the location. I started thinking, "Oh no, it's all going to be ice and snow and nothing else," but now I've been convinced otherwise.

I imagine it'll be more like Norway as everyone's been saying with parts that are green and forested rather than just mountains and snow. I like to think it's somewhat like where I live here in Wales too. Mountainous with some parts of snow and large mountain ranges leading into smaller valleys holding towns.

Let's hope they have some screens on game informer on february :D
I like the idea of it being in Skyrim.. I mean I don't know much about the lore but, it seems very interesting. I always liked to be in the bruma area in oblivion.
(I hope they add in an effect so that you can see your breath when you breathe.. >>)
I really have no opinion on another place it could've taken place in.

Wish it was in Elsweyr, I'd love a setting like that. You got your arid climates and biomes, and you also get jungles! How cool is that? Desert =/= endless sand.

I've honestly never been disappointed with how TES have turned out and what Bethesda's done with the games. They've all been very exciting and beautiful, for their times. I do like snow and the frozen north as it were. I doubt that that is all we'll get but it's not at all disappointing to my mind. Honestly I think being disappointed by the locale at this point is premature. TES are really the last great RPGs to my mind, and I can't wait to see what they come up with in a year's time.

Being from the north, I′m kind of fed up with snow, ice (but not mead halls). Snow and ice everywhere won′t make an interesting gaming world.

Living in a desert, Skyrim is a welcome change from my real-life location, so your point is made null.

As long as there are forest areas without snow so we can still get that fantasy feel - and rain as well as snow - I'll be a happy camper!

bleh... idk why everyone always hatin on oblivion. I thought oblivion was beautiful and the landscape changes depending on what corner of the map u were on. one had high brown grass another was green and lush, one was swampy, another was snowy and mountainous, and another was like a coniferous forest...with alot of bears. it had enough variety is all im saying. not every location could be 100 percent unique but it was pretty awesome none the less. Especially when shivering isles came out. As for this new Skyrim game yeah there is a chance it will be a little more bland. But i'm sure bethesda will figure it out and make it look more interesting. I'm sure skyrim has some green spots. The bottom parts will be greenish watch lol. Even tho in cyrodil. north towards skyrim was all icy... it doesn't have to be consistent lol. It is in fact going ot be a different game so im sure we will forgive them for it.

I would have liked to see either Summerset Isles or Black Marsh. However, I think Skyrim will fit me very well. I like it because of the more natural environment, as it also was in Oblivion. I also liked the mushrooms and what not of Morrowind, but for the time being, I am happy with Skyrim.

I was surprised it was Skyrim, though, as Solstheim was in Morrowind I had actually thought it would mean that Skyrim would be 'skipped' as a location and they would use another. I cool with it though!

I honestly couldn't be more excited about the location! Skyrim is what I want to see.
If I had to pick a different one though then it would be Black Marsh.
Nords and Argonians are my favourite races. Coincidence?

MEAD Halls. Don't forget Mead Halls.

Indeed, mead shall be the most popular beverage in the province! We need mead halls for this.
