No kidding, I always thought the point of a sequel was to keep the old formula, inject a new story, and attempt to get all the same customers to buy it again.
Really? I thought the point of a sequel was to improve and evolve the original concept.
An example for your thought would be the Call of Duty series.
An example for mine would be the Assassin's Creed series.
I honestly don't think that CoD players will continue to act like CoD players once they're in a game, so its a non-issue for me. I am of the opinion that people only use as much annoying tactics as the game allows. People camp, quickscope, or use OP weapons because it works. In the end, most players only care about winning. If winning requires teamwork, people will learn.
