Hand-to-Hand Combat Discussion

Post » Wed Feb 10, 2010 1:59 am

I've always enjoyed playing unarmed monks and other hand-to-hand based characters, so I'm really hoping that Bethesda will use a better hand-to-hand combat system than Oblivion/Fallout used.

I'd like to see them implement a more "fluid" hand-to-hand system that utilizes punches, kicks, grapples, disarming moves, etc.

Agree or Disagree? Any thoughts?

Wasn't allowed to vote (???), but sure, why not. As martial arts, sure. But also the general brawl. Can't have Nords without a proper bar fight, can we? :D

YES! Like Mirror's Edge. Punch! Kick! Parkour-double-flip-sneaker-in-the-face! :teehee:

Needs h2h weapons, like brass knuckles and katars, too. And gauntlets of pummeling. Also, definitely work on using the entire body as a weapon: elbows, knees, feet. Grappling moves to deliver blows to the chest, break arms, etc.

Agreed. If done right, hand-to-hand could be much more fun than in Morrowind/Oblivion/Fallout 3. As you said, it needs to be more fluid and elegant.

Also, Bethesda really needs to add Bar fights... especialy since it's in Skyrim.

I don't expect to see hand to hand combat given an entirely different series of dodges and counters over the standard melee fare, but I'd at least like to see it elevated to the point of being useful to some degree. In Oblivion, the skill essentially translated to how effective you were when your good weapons were either broken or lost. I'd like to see a master of hand to hand be able to trump a claymore-user operating with slightly less skill.
