This is tipically one of those things i don't remember ever reading about in any ingame books, so I wonder where did this information come from. Knowing how the ES lore seems to just happen around, and written through the interview, I suspect this must have been mentioned in one too, right? If so, please point me in the way of it! ^^;
But there are some things I don't understand, and if this was explained anywehere (like the potential interview I mentioned) could someone who knows it please explain it to me?
First of all I don't understand how the Great houses and Minor houses are connected. Here it says that Shota was a minor house (seemingly destroyed by House Dagoth masquarading as House Dagon on this site - and I really wonder if this is merely a spelling mistake or means some sect of Dagon and then the link shouldn't point to House Dagoth. ). But the lore says when Nerevar united the chimer, there were six great chimer houses and when the dwemer joined later they could be considered as a seventh one. Right? Right. Even the One-Clan-Under-Moon-And-Star's model seem to have six blue stones in it, and not, let's say, a hundred. This makes me believe there must be some serious distinction between the great and minor houses, and this distinction must have existed even at the time of the First Council. (but this may be only me jumping into conclusions)
We also know that while Nerevar was House Indoril, his name was Indoril Nerevar Mora, for being born in the minor house Mora of hich he was the leader of too - meaning it was a still existing house (it would be kind of difficult to be the leader of a non-existent house - unless of course you are called Dagoth Ur). Appearantly he seems to be the member of two houses, but the rule on Vvardenfell is that a person can be the member of only one Great House, and the membership is exclusive, even if you get expelled.
While at the same time Dagoth Ur was called Voryn Dagoth, which, based on this, I think must mean that he was born in the main stream of House Dagoth, and clearly the member of only one house.
This has always led me to think that minor houses were more like clans than actual houses, and therefore could be part of the great houses - much like how, for example, the Sarethi family is a member of the modern House Redoran. That would sound logical enough. Buuut...
As I mentioned before, the ES lore has a way to pop ip un a frustratingly disjointed manner all around the internet, and what different developers say are sometimes in contradiction of each other, especially if MK is involved anywhere in that. Some of the lore I see therefore threats minor houses as actual houses, that can be adopted in other houses - like the one Barenziah is from. Or we could also be understand this as if minor hopuses were the vassals of the great houses, and this was why a great house would adopt a minor ones members, and this could also explain how could Nerevar be a member of both Mora and Indoril.
My questionis: is there an actual "official" opinion on what are minor houses, and how are they connected to great houses? Are there still any existing minor houses? Or was it only me misunderstanding something?
My other problem is, this article says that Nerevar has resurrected Shota Sil - which sounds more than a little unbelievable to me. We don't really see anyone resurrected in the ES lore, and it is often suggested that once you die on Tamriel you are dead until your soul gets "cleaned" in the Dreamsleeve. How is this possible then? Opinions?
