I was replaying the College of winterhold questline with my new Breton character and when I got to the quest where you had to find the book I thought to myself "Hmm I've never actually read this" after finishing a lot came to my mind...

How DID the Falmer find out about the Eye of Magnus? Now we do know that the Oculories act like observatories that use starlight to map out the stars and moons but if the Synod figured out that by using one of them to find magical sources in Tamriel how do we know that the Dwemer didn't do it before them? We know they were obsessed with finding great magical powers, but what if they actually did try it?

What I'm saying is, what if the Falmer are really innocent and it was the Dwemer who attacked Saarthal and framed the Falmer? We know they had a way of finding the eye of magnus and we know they are obsessed with magic and have gone to extremes to get what they wanted.

Just a theory but a good one at that.
