Strange colours and missing body parts.

Post » Mon Jun 25, 2012 3:25 am

So I started a game some time ago and I'm running into problems now.
Here is a screenshot that shows both problems, colours and missing body parts.

Does anyone have an idea of what can be done to fix this?

I tried to do everything by the book, using Wrye bash and BOSS to install and manage the mods but obviously I missed something... Some missing compatibility patch or something? I suspected EVE first but animals are also missing body parts, pointing me to MMM but that doesn't help me.. Do anyone of you Oblivion mod gurus have a clue of what it can be? Help is very much appreciated.

Missing textures and such.

Did you do anything about archive invalidation?

I did something about archive invalidation.

I followed the readmee's and in one of them (OFF) it was mentioned so I did it as it was said there, using OBMM for that. But other than that, nothing.
  • Using OBMM, click "Utilities > Archive Invalidation".
  • Check "BSA Invalidation" (the only mode that works here).
  • Check "Textures".
  • Uncheck "only include files which already exist in a BSA archive".
  • Click "Update Now".
That was it... Is that needed for more stuff?

Try this method instead:

For OBMM users:
  • Start OBMM.
  • Click Utilities.
  • Select Archive invalidation. You'll get a popup window.
  • Click BSA redirection (it's the default choice).
  • Click Update Now.
  • Close the Archive invalidation popup (click the red X in the upper-left corner).
  • Quit OBMM or click Launch Oblivion.

I only used OBMM because that readmee said I should do that.
And I have no clue what archive invalidation is, it had something to do with bsa's but I had a lot of bsa's but it was only Optimized Facegen Files that menitioned invalidation...

EDIT: And to make something more substantial of this post I wonder if it matters when invalidation is done. As it was now I did it when I installed OFF but should it perhaps be done last or something?

Thanks. That worked like a charm. My spooky ghost guards are all gone now. :)

What archive invalidation does, is force oblivion to use loose files, with more recent datestamp first. If you have a texture overriding a vanilla texture, (the vanilla textures are in the bsa files) the file with the newest date wins. You have to TELL oblivion to do that though. :)

Should only have to do it once, and then again after you install any mods with bsa files. (aside from your initial install.)
