What's the best way to get Side Quests?

Post » Thu Jun 28, 2012 6:36 pm

I find myself in a bit of a bind, asking what is probably a common sense question, but here goes. What's the best way to get Side Quests? Not really talking about quests that sprout off of the main quests, I'm thinking more like the Michangelo will you help me take photo quests. It seems like there every where, but it also seems like you have to do a good bit of exploring to find new places and new faces to get an offer for a side quest.

Oh well, there you have it, any ideas or good advice? G

Well first off know that there are two types of side-quests. Marked and unmarked. Unmarked are things like what No-Bark says with the Chupacabra with a machinegun or things mentioned in notes. These kinds of side quests require a lot more work to complete, and most don't award experience. Marked ones on the other hand are the ones like the photo-quest w/ Michael. These can be gotten by just talking to random people.

But basically if you check the wiki you should be able to find a lot of the marked and unmarked quests and who gives them. Hope that helps.

Thanks Twich, and that does help. I will explore those options. What prompted me to ask this question is this: I went wandering around/exploring somewhere near the Great Khan land because I was bored. So, I came upon this Super Mutant town I think called Jakobstown. This is something I never would have found unless some sort of side quest had sent me there. That's when I decided to ask my OP. There you have it.

I would not use the wiki at this point, savor the game while it's still fresh and let stuff surprise you.

But like any RPG, you go around talking to people. Things will come up.

Yeah, this is pretty much the thing to do if you want to find side quests.

Some quests are unmarked, so you might have to use the wiki to find some of those in later playthroughs, but for now, just look for new areas and then talk to all of the people in those areas. Someone is bound to have some kind of problem that they need help with. Oh, and a lot of sidequests can only be accessed/finished if you have certain skills at certain levels, so watch out for skill checks in dialogue and know that if you don't pass them, you may be unable to start a particular quest until you pass them.
