Question about Talos and Towers

Post » Fri Jul 06, 2012 12:22 am

Orichalc??? No idea about this one to be honest.

Likely destroyed. That was the one on Yokuda. I don't recall if it was ever confirmed to be truely gone though.

Some of the Magne-Ge, at best one can say, who are bestewed with the hatred and wrath Magnus has toward the imperfect and hurting Mundus.

Thanks, as I said before I'm quite new to lore so to any experienced lore buffs out there, please bear with me as I'm likely going to ask many question.

Well I don't know what all towers are, I don't think anybody does for sure, but I'll try to list them best as I can.

Walk-Brass: Disabled (Dragon broke, during Daggerfell)
Red-Mountain: Disabled (Disabled during events of Morrowind)
White-Gold: Disabled (Destroyed by the Oblivion crisis)
Crystal like Law: Disabled (Destroyed during the Oblivion crisis)
Snow-Throat: Disabled (No real idea why, there are some theories floating around the forum though)

Adamantine: Enabled, the Ur tower, zero stone whatever. The first tower ever made.

Those are all pretty much confirmed towers, some would assume the Hist is a tower as well, others say that Khajiit are either a tower or a stone. It all becomes a bunch of speculation however and far as I know no conclusive evidence has been given pointing one way or the other.

As for speculative towers:

Falinesti, the walking city in Valenwood. No idea what the status is, but I'm guessing disabled.
Orichalc??? No idea about this one to be honest.

Wait, let's be clear here:

White-gold may still be active. There are multiple theories supporting the fact that there is a new stone, although my money is on it disabled.
Snow-throat is more than likely still active, unless you have some evidence I haven't come across. We don't even know what the stone is.
Brass might still be active aswell, unless again you have information I don't.
Falinesti may still be active aswell. Shouldn't just guess about these things, it's confusing enough as it is. :P

Orchalc, Red mountain, and Crystal-like-law are afaik the only ones you can say without doubt are destroyed.

I think I also read somewhere that Towers require some sort of faith to function at all.

We know that somehow this Kalpa is unique. Is Fight One from the http://www.imperial-library.info/content/seven-fights-aldudaggaa story from the previous Kalpa or the current? It has Lorhkan hiding under his mountain (Red Tower). So we know Towers may have existed in previous Kalpas, yet it did nothing to stop Alduin from gobbling them up.

Maybe I'm confused. Do Towers fend off the World Eating, or some other dooms day scenario?

Couldn't it be possible some towers are in Akavir and not just Tamriel?

I think that would involve some sort of migration of Aldmer to Akavir. Adamantine Tower was the inspiration for all the other towers, IIRC. Unless there are two different kinds of Towers: those built by mortals, and "natural" ones like the tree and mountain ones. I'm not sure if the difference even matters.

It is also possible that after the Akaviri invasion, knowledge of the Towers was brought back to Akavir at which point they began building their own. Though I'm not sure if the invading forces even made it back to Akavir, or if there might have been intercontinental communication between the Potentates and their homeland.

What about the Coral Tower of Thras? It wasn't destroyed during punitive expedition of Bendu Olo against the Sload, and after that contact sort of ended. So I think we can assume the Coral Tower still stands.

What coral tower? As far as I know, there's nothing to indicate that the Sloads coral based kingdom constitutes a tower.

Would it be possible for man to just make more towers to counter the Thalmor initiative or is the function of these towers not known to man?

'The Pillar of Thras is a thousand foot tall spiral of coral, which is said to be a portal to Oblivion. The Sload make sacrifices here, and while many of them die, a few seem to disappear a moment before being dashed on the rocks.[2]'

From the UESP.

I read that this Pillar is also a Tower, i think somewhere on the Imperial Library.

Sounds like you read some forumite's conjecture to me. The only list of towers we have is from the Nu-Mantia intercepts, which mentions Snow-Throat, Walk-Brass, White-Gold, Green-Sap, Orichalc, and Crystal-Like-Law, and of course, Red Mountain and Ada-Mantia. None of these have anything to do with the Pillar of Thras.
