A Province Divided:

The Interregnum OOC And Sign Up Thread

The year is 2E 472, it has been nearly 500 years since Tamriel has had an Emperor on the throne. The provinces have broken apart into a complex web of small warlords and kingdoms. Even the Imperial Province is nigh unrecognizable.

Since the death of the Akaviri Potentate Savririen-Chorak forty years ago, the Empire has had a string of ineffectual leaders, unable to keep the old Counts from revolting. Soon, the Imperial City found itself separated from the rest of the Empire.

Finally, a minor warlord invaded the Imperial City and wiped out almost all of the Empire's remaining Legions.

Now what little remains of the old Reman Empire has retreated south to Leyawiin, and awaits its doom.

In the West, the highly independent lords of the Colovians swiftly united under the banner of the Colovian Empire.

In the north, a tribe of Boethia worshippers have taken over the former county of Bruma, instituting a new religion based on their Daedric Prince.

In the East, Cheydinhal has fallen to minor, bickering warlords fighting for control of small towns and villages.

In the South, Bravil and Skingraad have united as a single nation.

And on the rocky coasts of the Abbecean Sea, a small city state has formed.

This is a time of great hardship in Cyrodiil, a time of warriors and kings, of mages and assassins. Perhaps there is a new Reman amongst these young kingdoms, a leader that the people of Tamriel can unite around.

?All are sure is that the Interregnum has begun.

But there is still hope.

Recently, a council was called to meet in the White Gold Tower to discuss the future of Tamriel. The leaders of many of the kingdoms have sent representatives, and several leaders have also come. These debates may just be the spark to begin a bloody war, or may lead to a great peace that shall stand the test of time.

That was over a month ago now, and the situation has fallen apart. Two factions have formed, and have entered into a soon to be bloody war.

Fadrill's early life was troubling to say the least, as he was sent to an orphanage at age 3 after his mother and father were killed by anti-daedric bigots. He has resented the divines to this day, as soon as he was skilled enough to begin killing in the name of Boethiah.

His first target was the man who killed his mom, an Imperial named Belan. The imperial was living a normal life in Skingrad, he had a wife, and two children. Fadrill was furious, the man slaughtered his family and then built one of his own! This was intolerable! Fadrill killed the father and mother leaving the child to Fadrill's fate, the child couldn't identify Fadrill so he was never caught.

Fadrill then began recruiting assassins forming a small company that all killed in Boethiah's name. Fadrill eventually met a man named Cassamir who employed him and asked to help Cassamir take control of Bruma from a warlord, the first thing Fadrill noticed about Cassamir was a boethian symbol hanging from his neck, He agreed and did as Cassamir asked. They took the city easily, as Cassamir had brought a friend named Orvas to help him, the warlord was no match.

He was then given a position as the leader of Boethiah's Hand, Cassamir's assassins who would eventually become his security detail as well. It was Fadrill who suggested that they take people of adequate strength, cunning, and determination at age 14 to train them in the ways of the assassin, or in the ways of the Warrior.

He was a personal friend of the Count of Leyawiin, and was given a nepotistic promotion to Steward, a position he always regretted taking. It made him feel weird and it earned him ire from the nobility.

Each legionary is equipped with a throwing spear, a large full body shield, a short sword, chain mail covered by steel shoulder pads and chest plates. They also have all the supplies needed for sieges, like shovels and hammers.

They are good at engineering siege engines on the spot, and are very well disciplined.

The ancillaries are made up of volunteer soldiers, with light armor, they are used as flanking and distracting forces. They have the same short swords, and have smaller round shields.

The cavalry is heavily armored with steel on the horses and riders. They are similar to Cataphracts, but they are hard to use in the lush jungles of southern Cyrodiil.

They are still strong, but are divided, and there is not a single full legion. The command structure is divided, and leading them is like herding cats. But they are all well trained, and career soldiers.

So when Aventius was 11, his father personally taught him how to be a leader. Over several years, Aventius was taught in combat, and leadership. However when he reached 23, his father and mother died almost at the same time. Due to the empire being forced out of Anvil, he became King instead of count.

For years, he was building up an army. He plans to reunite Cyrodill under his banner. Through both conquest, and diplomacy. By 28, he married the now queen Vinnius Umbranox and fathered a son, Aventius Umbranox II. When he is 36, his army his large and qualified enough to began a conquest on Cyrodill. It's cool, but don't worry about Flavius, he'll soon have bigger worries. Gaius Tullius is scheming.

Maybe I am, would constantly launching Boulders at your fort, slowly chipping the walls away will work?
It's somewhat debatable. As always I'll cite my sources.
From this website;
Maximum range for a catapult might be as much as 750 m but 450 to 500 m is effective range. A large catapult can lob a rock about 80 kg in weight. This will cause some structural damage but to really have an effect you have to get within 150 m which is not heathy for the crew.
From http://www.mlahanas.de/Greeks/war/Catapults.htm
Catapults were able to fire such projectiles with considerable accuracy. Their fire could easily be concentrated on a single spot with repeated hits, knocking away the protecting battlements on top of a city wall or detaching the armor on a mobile siege tower.

If I could be bothered to go out an find more sources but I'm freaking lazy. The summary seems to be that they could destroy battlements and damage anyone on top of the walls but as for actually bringing down actual walls it might be more difficult.

Please go out and prove me wrong. :D

It's somewhat debatable. As always I'll cite my sources.

You're just wrong.. Cuz... I just know... Anyways, I edited the post where the walls are slowly bring chipped of. (If they are not destroyed, then they are less effective of providing cover for the archers.) And some are landing at the courtyard.

So how far are your catapults firing from?

I would say about 100 meters, maybe 140 at the farthest and about 80 closest. Maybe 110 meters?

So well within range of my archers? That's pretty dangerous, how many of them are there?

I still haven't fully decide where it will be, I guess 190 to 200 unless you want me to do 100. And I am using two at the fort.

It's up to you but before I post I need to know exactly where they are, how big their crews are, what ammunition they're firing, how regularly their firing, etc.

There roughly 190 ft from the fort, operated by a crew of 6, (4 loaders and two firing.) They are using Boulders as ammunition, and I guess they are firing and reloading every 5 minutes if that's realistic?

So slightly lighter structural damage but still taking out the battlements. What weight are these boulders? I don't know about speed, I guess it depends on humidity too.

Well these boulders are about 90 pounds, but if picked up by 4 men over 140, it wouldn't be too hard. Since most of my army are Colovians, they could be used to the weather. As for battlements, the boulders will damage the walls but not destroy them. They are used to demoralize the men in the fort as well as take casualties.

I agree with the weight but the humidity point wasn't about the men working in the heat, it was more about how much the leather strips on the catapult would stretch. Catapults are rendered almost useless but excess water in the air because it takes the tightness from the strips and lets them stretch rendering the catapult useless. I'll be as fair as possible with the casualties, keeping in mind that adjusting the aim of a catapult takes a long time and is damn difficult.

True, maybe to counter that, Aventius's catapults could have some design to make it adaptable in humid weather? And I agree about reaming them.

If you can suggest a plausible adaption then I'll go with it.

Keep in mind there'll be thunderstorms this night. It's humid now. Tomorrow will be very calm and hot hot hot.

Well I don't know much about science but maybe mages would put some enchantment that could help with the immunity?
