Persistent CTD problem

Post » Sat Jul 21, 2012 4:39 pm

I have just installed Morrowind on my new computer. I am, however, receiving a persistent CTD error. It almost always happens either right before or right after race selection; the furthest I've gotten before experiencing it was right before entering the Census and Excise Office. Sometimes it even occurs right after exiting the ship. I first noticed it after installing MGE XE--so I uninstalled MGE XE and installed MGE. In both versions distant land was not showing up, despite being calculated and enabled; with plain MGE the water looks atrocious despite using a water shader. Since I first noticed the problem after installing MGE XE (I had to start the game once, of course, to install MGE, and I did not encounter the error--but I also did not yet have any mods installed, either), I suspect MGE XE/MGE is the culprit, but here's my mod list, too, just in case.

Any ideas? Quickly glancing over it myself, I didn't see any obvious conflicts.

For reference, I'm running on Windows 7 (yes, I'm running in compatibility mode and as administrator), with 12 GB RAM, an NVIDIA graphics card, and plenty of extra room. I have no frame rate issues, which in the past have generally accompanied CTDs for me.

For conflicts, you might try mlox and/or TESPCD. They approach the conflict problem in different ways, so it's handy to be able to use both.

There's always the tried and true, but tedious bisect technique: disable half your mods, if the problem stops it's probably in one of the mods in the half you disabled. Then enable half of those ... and so on.

With regular MGE you have to enable pixel shading in the morrowind launcher. Then its all better - had that problem myself.

Thanks, we'll see if that solves the problem...

Oh - I meant that it will solve the ugly water problem. I looked over your mod load and I don't know how to stop the actual CTD. If you were responding to john, then good - mlox might be the best way to detect a conflict.

Yeah, mlox solved my CTD. :) And updating MGE to SVN 118 fixed my ugly water; apparently my water shader required SVN117 or later...
