Make your own Skyrim screenshots

Post » Wed Feb 17, 2010 3:01 am

So I was a bit bored today, and thought I would create some screenshots using photos of areas that might be similar to Skyrim. I mainly just tweaked the photos with some basic filters to add things like lens flares and make them look more animated and pixelated. This is what I envision most of Skyrim looking like (albeit a bit more foreign with the foliage/geology).

What do you think, too generic?

Well, these were all daytime photos  I agree though, they do have a similar color pattern to Oblivion. I wouldn't mind if they went a bit darker with Skyrim, but I don't want it to turn into Gears of War or anything where everything is brown/grey. I got more than enough of those two colors in the last two Fallout games.

No, I wouldn't like it to be monotone brown or grey either. I just think that the general atmosphere is going to be of a much darker nature. Less bright green fields I guess.

Sort of like the concept art they had at the VGA announcement. http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad98/Wahoo425/Skyrim.jpg

More natural fog and mist throughout the forests/mountains/plains would go a long way in making more immersive and darker/gloomier

Agreed. As long as they don't overdo it of course. Fog is great as an atmosphere builder, not as a tool to hide shortcomings. Fog would be cool as a weather effect, but I also want to occasionally see for miles when I climb to an elevated area. I don't want Morrowind's draw distance blocking "fog". I would be happy if it were only used as an occasional weather effect, and maybe location based, in some of the low lying forests and swamps.

How about, I dunno, dynamic weather? Sometimes it's dark and gloomy, sometimes it's bright and sunny. What a concept!

Those look more like Final Fantasy VII backgrounds. As far as pixelation goes, most modern games are pretty much true to life.

I believe Skyrim is going to be a bright game...with dark times, similar to Oblivion.

Nah you don't need to per-say, but it shows the whole picture and loads much faster.
Somewhere you can see an URL called "Direct link" that will link directly to the picture. ;]

I was gonna make some mountain screenshots too but Oblivion's distant lod isn't nice looking enough. Not that I am saying SK will look like those. Just showing Oblivion with some shader polish as base.

I always imagined Skyrim looking more like Svalbard. With the settlements (excluding the old forts) in green valleys, overlooked by tall, snowy mountains and with a lot of lakes around. Something like this:
