Fallout 3 and Windows 7 Help

G'day all,

I have recently purchased the GOTY edition of Fallout 3 and i seem to be having immense trouble playing it on windows 7.
It installs fine and everything is great until i click on New Game and then it crashes all the way back to the desktop.

I have been looking around for any answer to this problem but i cant seem to find any (could be that i am not looking the right places)

Do you have an Asus video card? If so, do you have Asus's GamerOSD or Smartdoctor utilities installed? If so, uninstall them as they interfere with the game.


Have you tried the Multi-Core Fix?:

Find your .ini file in your My Documents\My Games\Fallout3 folder ...it is the configuration settings file named FALLOUT

Open it with notepad and do a CTRL+F to search for the line

bUseThreadedAI=0

.....change it to =1


and below that line add this line

iNumHWThreads=2



Lastly, Codecs....a few of them from Cyberlink. This game and most Bethesda games are iffy with too many codecs. May want to give K-Lite's Codec Pack (Basic AND 64-bit) a try....it's a less intrusive codec replacer utility:

Otherwise, there's Nightmare's Codec Reset Utility, which you can google up....restores codecs to preinstalled Windows ones.

Thanks a ton mate, you got it working it no longer crashes just after i click on New Game.

I removed the GamerOSD and Smartdoctor and did the multi-core fix and it works.

well it works so far as i get to wander around as a baby for a minute or 2 and then it stalls. any thoughts? (it never ends)
