I know exactly what you mean.

Not sure how to fix it. Might have something to do with your graphic drivers.

Alt+Tab the game to minimise it then bring it back up, see if that fixes it. Make sure you don't have other programs running behind it. Try exiting the game and running it again, it shouldn't be that persistant, in my experience at least.

Yeah, I've been having that problem in those games on pretty much every computer I've ever ran it on since 1998. The Alt-Tab trick has always worked for me.

I just install the Killapps patch and change the renderer.

While I was having that problem as well, the Alt-Tab works pretty well.

My real issue is that while I'm playing, the whole screen blacks out, but it will restore itself on an area that moves. For example, if I move the mouse cursor across the screen, it reveals the area that the cursor went over. If I put the cursor over the edge of the screen so it'll move the camera, it reveals the whole screen. My biggest problems are that the only way I can reveal the HUD is to move the cursor over it, and it keeps blacking out every few seconds. Anyone know what I'm talking about here?

Oh, and sorry for taking over your thread here, General. Or trying to, at any rate...

I only get the black screen issue in the original Fallout, just press C to bring up the character sheet and then ESC to close it again and everything will be normal. It's just a minor inconvenience once you get used to it.

Just found the part in the Intro stickied thread about this particular issue. In my defense, I didn't have a clue where to look, as I said in another thread here...

After following the link and doing the best I could, I'm still stuck with this. While the page is translated, the actual fix is not, so it's telling me something in french that I don't understand, and it doesn't seem to actually do anything. I'm still having this problem.

Same here, in addition to the rainbow pixel nuisance, my screen often times becomes unbearably dark until i exit a town and reenter it.

Yes, this will fix it.

Fallout 1 and 2 just don't display properly on windows XP or Vista computers otherwise.

It's only a chance. I've never had problems with my Fallouts on XP or Vista. It may go black, once in a very long time, but it will be the once, and then all is forgotten. Rainbow only happens at startup, so I'll know what's going on before I get into my game. All these problems can be solved with an Alt+TAB, just for some people it's too persistant to be an effective solution.

Killap's patch is highly recommended however, render issues or not.
