I know it says how to on the MGE thread, but could someone explain in a lot of detail, how I install MGE on morrowind with steam. I am not very good with computers, and I am new to mods, so I need some help :l

The installation method for Steam and non Steam versions are almost identical. With Steam, you should be able to find the Morrowind folder somewhere in \Steam\steamapps\

The only extra thing you have to do after installing is open Steam, go to file->Settings->In-game and UNtick the 'enable Steam community in-game' box.

If your running Windows Vista or Win7, make sure you have the proper admin rights to manually install files (you can easily use an admin account for that).

* Find where you installed 'Steam' - usually your C: drive under 'Program Files' folder inside the 'Steam' folder.

* The Steam version of Morrowind is installed two folders below the 'Steam' folder: first open the 'common' folder, then open the 'morrowind' folder - this is the folder you want to install MGE to, just follow the well documented https://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/morrgraphext/index.php?title=Installing_MGE_correctly already provided in the MGE documentation.

* Redate the bsa files to year 2002 located in the 'Data Files' folder under the 'Morrowind' folder - a program like http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/Ninotech-Date-Edit.shtml can help redate the bsa files (should work with all 32-bit versions of Windows).
In order to get distantland to work properly (as well as any mods that replace bookart, icons, meshes or textures), you need to redate the Morrowind.bsa, Tribunal.bsa and Bloodmoon.bsa archive files to an earlier date since Steam will date & timestamp them the same as when you installed Morrowind - by default, Morrowind handles files by the most recent date when deciding which version to use in-game when both a loose file and an archived file with the same name exists; not redating the bsa archives will most likely override any mods created earlier than when you installed your Steam version of Morrowind.
* as povuholo stated, you'll also need to uncheck 'Enable Steam Community In-Game':
* Startup Steam
* Open the 'File' menu, select 'Settings'
* Click on the 'In-game' tab
* Click on the box next to 'Enable Steam Community In-Game' so it's unchecked
* Click OK to close the 'Settings' window
FYI: you won't be able to use the Steam in-game chat client while playing Morrowind with MGE.

That should get Steam configured properly to run Morrowind, not only with MGE but also with any other mods. ;)

I try to run the MGEgui, but my computer says it is not working. It is in my morrowind folder.

Thanks for this topic and its reply! I'm making use of it, along with a few other great tutorials, to mod the Steam version. I still have the disc version if necessary, but I dunno where I put it, and I hate having a disc in the drive. :)

Thanks again.
