Chapter One- I Don't Want to Set the World On Fire
"You're not just pissin' on me. You're pissin' on the bear." After Oliver spoke those last words The Courier fired his .44 magnum revolver right into General Oliver's face. The Second Battle for Hoover Dam was won by the mighty Caesar and his Legion. When the Courier returned to Vegas he found that many eyes gazed upon him with shame. When he passed by the Lucky 38 someone nearly shot him with a .308 caliber rifle. A few moments later Craig Boone was seen jumping off the top floor of the Lucky 38. Boone was dead before he even hit the floor, maybe it was adrenaline or maybe fear. He went into his presedential suite of the Lucky 38 and saw Arcade leaving.
The Courier asked Arcade, "Wait where are you going?"
Arcade said, "Do you see what the Legion has done? They have made happy, innocent, little Veronica suicidal and now Boone finally had enough and ended his life. I see he isn't as good of a shot as he used to be. Anyway I am leaving here, the Legion changes people. I am getting away from here and as far away from this nation that I can." The Courier knew that there were always repercussions for war but his best friends were this angry.
He said to Arcade, "Well then, friend, I guess this is goodbye. It was good knowing you, I just wish I got to know more about you. I know there is a dark secret in the back of that head." Arcade sinlently walked out into the wastes. He knew it would be a few days before he would be caught by the Legion.
Arcade thought to himself, "I think I will head east, beyond Legion territory. But first I gotta see the best pilot of the Remnants."
The Courier still had another challenge ahead of him, Veronica. He went up to the presidential suite and was greeted by Raul. Raul said, "She's in there boss. I think she's mad, if you need help just let me know." He walked into the guest room of the suite and heard crying, he heard it when he arrived but now it was louder. He pulled back curtains and saw a holotape that was set on repeat. Beside it was another holotape that the Courier picked up. He put it inside his Pip-Boy and it began to play.
It was the voices of Veronica and Cass, "Hey there if you are hearing this Cass and I are long gone. We are heading west to start a new caravan company. I hope that you and you're legion friends fail." Cass' voice popped in saying, " Yeah I'm still an NCR citizen and I'm not accepting the Legion's rules about women that's why Veronica and I ran away."
The Courier walked out of the room, saddened by what happened to so many of his friends. He then gathered Raul, Lily, ED-E, and Rex into a room.
The Courier said, "Thank you, all of you for being friends with me until the end. I would guess Caesar will use this place as his base since it is elegant. I am going to send you four to a place where the Legion cannot get to you. It is a place full of technological wonders called the Big Empty, or as the scientists there call it Big Mountain. Rex there are plenty of Robot Dogs just like you there. And ED-E there are robots in that place as far as the eye can see. Raul there is plenty of things there for you to perform maintenance on and fix. Lily there is a house there full of living robots who would love to hear stories of your grandchildren. I am sorry I don't want the Legion to change you like it has to so many of my friends." A tear rolled down from The Courier's eye. He managed to say, "Meet me in my room and I will send you there."
He walked into his room, so many memories here of his friends and now they would all be gone. He rummaged through his chest full of unused guns that were gathering dust and found The Transportalponder. When the last of his friends walked into the room he said, "Now for this to work I need you all to hold something of eachother." Lily picked up and held Rex. Raul grabbed Lily's hand. ED-E perched himself on to Raul's head. The Courier said, "I love you guys and I will miss you. I have to let go and let you guys live life unchanged."
ED-E began to beep sadly, Rex began to whimper, Lily said, "Grandma loves you too Jimmy.", Raul said, "It was good knowing you boss." The Courier then took aim at them all and shot the Transportalponder at them. A wall of lightning appeared around them and they were gone just like that.
The Courier said to himself, "Wait how did I just do that? That was just a longshot and it worked." He saw a note on the side of the gun saying, "You know who this is. I fixed this because I know your past and your future. I knew what you would do to the remainder of your friends. Now we must talk again." The Courier put the gun back in his chest and grabbed his Elite Riot Gear and Anti-Material Rifle. He left the Lucky 38 and was heading back to the storms of The Divide.
When The Courier arrived at the Divide he saw Ullyses just sitting there, waiting for him. Ullyses didn't even turn and he said, "Come, sit down we need to talk."
The Courier sat by Ullyses and asked, "First of all how did you know what I would do?"
Ullyses said, "I know because I know your past and I could predict your future, my turn for a question. Why did you help the Legion after all i told you about them?"
The Courier said, "I took what you told me to heart. About men changing by the paths they walk. I believed Caesar was following the right path and I would keep him on it."
Ullyses said, "Fair enough. I have a request for you. I need you to deliver this package to Caesar. He'll know what it means."
