Load screen freezing

I downloaded/installed Fallout: New Vegas and began playing. It worked fine and had only a few minor issues, other than the random lag spikes. So I'm about 20 minutes in, and I decide to look something up about the game. So I exit the game, open Google Chrome, etc. And then when I'm done I go to play some more. The game loads like it normally would load, and I go to load my save, using the "Load" option, then, it begins to load. It seems to load fine at first, but then it freezes out of nowhere.

I've looked everywhere for a solution, I even tried downloading a mod that improves performance. But still, I can't seem to find a solution. As you probably already know, I'm asking for someone to tell me the solution.

I've tried clicking continue instead, setting it's priority to above normal, and high, I've minimised the settings, edited the fallout_default.ini file, starting a new game and the loading it from there (It froze loading the first part), and I'm about to try defragmenting my harddrive. I will post if it worked after the defragmenting.

I have:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
2.00 Gb RAM
ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics
160 Gb Harddrive
AMD Athlon? Processor TF-20, 1600 Mhz, 1 core, 1 Logical processor
I got this computer in early 2010, and it can play games like Need for Speed most wanted on high graphics with almost no lag at all.
