Making a NIF float in Water

Post » Sun Feb 21, 2010 9:38 am

I would like to have a floating rubber bouncy ball toy that floats in water. Unfortunately, the existing rubber ball from your nursery sinks in water. I guess its made out of neutronium or something. :lmao:

Does anyone know what to change on the bouncy ball to make it float? The milk carton seems to float just fine in water.

This floats:
\Fallout3\Data\meshes\clutter\junk\milkcarton01.nif

This does not float:
\Fallout3\Data\meshes\clutter\toys\ball01.nif

It's ikely something buried in the numerous Unknown Ints in the bhkRigidBody blocks. The milk crate has a mass value of 100 while the ball has 1, so that's certainly not it.

Aww. I was hoping it was figured out. :(

Funny thing is the milk crate sinks like a rock in the GECK and havoc is turned on. I wonder if its more hardcoded, perhaps 'wood' material objects float?
But then, the glass bottles appear to float as well. hmmm

I do think its the material. I have a few totally submerged areas with clutter placed on submerged shelves. It appears that only the glass bottles (milk and beer) as well as wooden clutter, are the things that float to the top when bumped into. Is there a density value in the rigid body node?

Have you tried changing the bhkRigitBody flags and options on the Ball to match that of the Milk Crate that floats?

There are a ton of differences in the bhkRigidBody Block Details between the two. I recommend trying to change the Block Details flags on the ball to match that of the crate - MC is right, there are alot of unknown flags.

WillieSea,

Here is your http://71.114.110.202/ballFloat01.nif. :)

I replicated the Milk Crate's unknown int flagging and collision stats, and it worked just fine. I was kicking it around megaton in and out of the water near the bomb, still acts like a ball.

Cheers,

Miax

Thanks Miaximus, but I made it float by just changing the >bhkSphereShape >Material HavokMaterial to 'HAV_MAT_WOOD' from the special value '31'.

I had tried change the unknown int's to the same value as the milk crate but it did nothing for it.

The HavokMaterial of 'HAV_MAT_CLOTH' also floats. And it sounds better than the wood material on the ball. Although its still not as good as the rubber ball sound you get with material '31'.

My ball should still be 31, I don't think I changed the Havok type.. I don't see the same Havok Type - how odd.
